oh and i'm meant to say something...
been playing for about 9months, currently off 18...
strengths and weaknesses.... well i'd say consistency really.
sometimes my driving is very good, other times i suffer a large slice.
irons wise i'm pretty good, can shape the ball both ways and generaly get a good flight and distance. i'd guess i'd say i'm very happy with my irons but need to work on the woods to straighten things out.
Ok, so your pleased with your irons but having problems with your woods. Yet you showed us your iron swing.
It would be a big help if you could post a swing with your woods from down the line and face on.
That way we can see your swing path, plane, weight transfer, grip, posture etc etc
When you film your swing down the line, try and get the camera in between your toes and the ball.... big help
Not a bad swing for someone who has only played for a few months, well done.
The one thing that I notice as you take the club away is that you re-grip the the club.
To explain
As you start to move the club into the backswing you move your right hand grip further to the right, this means that the club will be more in the palm of your hand than it should be. This leads to your clubface to be more closed than it should be at the top of the backswing.
This will certainly be a factor as to why you can hit your irons but not your woods. If teh clubface is closed you will have to manipulate the clubface as your swing down and through to the finish.
Try this
Try and be aware of consistent grip pressure throughout the swing, especially as you move the club away.
The best way to improve this is to be aware of the problem first. Your right thumb and first finger should creat a v that sits on top of the club at the start of the swing (the v should point up towards your right shoulder) maintain the position of this v on top of the club all the way through the swing
so my thumb and 1st finger should form a pretend gun basically - with the finger running down the length of the grip?
i normally move that finger further round the grip - i'll definately give it a go though.
cheers!
Nigel
The end of your right finger should sit and curl under the shaft, don't put your finger down the shaft
This will mean that the bottom/middle of your right finger will cradle the grip. Try and keep the pressure constant through the fingers at teh start of teh swing and throughout.
with my woods i think i do relax/change my grip on the backswing. with driver in particular my 'kick point' where i start the downswing is usually when i relax my right hand and feel the club hit against it at which point i start the downswing....
to the range i go!
