My best round to date yesterday, 91, and I’m frustrated and pleased in equal measures!
Could have so easily been sub 90 – three shocking holes just after the turn when my playing partners pointed out my rather impressive first 9 total of 41.
I knew I was going well but having that number in my head sent everything daft for a while and I recorded a 7, 8, 7 on pars 3, 4, 4, before getting some composure back, but it was definitely a game of two halves, I never felt anything like I did on the first nine and couldn’t get the thought of ‘I should make 82’ out of my head!

It’s even more frustrating that I think of myself as calm / level headed/ mentally strong etc so think I should be able to handle the (welcome) pressure of having a decent score so far!

Also, one stupid backhanded putt from 3” that didn’t go in! aaargh! Never again!

I can’t play again for 3 weeks now & can’t stop thinking what might have been!

DONT WASTE SHOTS let that be a lesson! A few people i play with do that and then say well it was a gimme! NO it wasnt you missed it and it will make you annoyed and ul b thinking of it for a while after!

Rant over Haa! Well done mate the addictive feeling of your best round is what people keep going back for i remember mine!

Congrats! :)

nowtfancy, well done, that comes a couple of weeks after my best. Unfortunately although i have played reasonably steady since I have only played a few holes as well. Its a pity you cant get out as you feel you want to play everyday after such a good round.

I waited 4 years to beat my best, I hope we both dont have to wait that long before we both do it again.

These silly shots we drop when putting, that was one of my big problems until a few years ago, when I changed and treated EVERY putt as important. If i can tap it in (up to 12 inches) or stand correctly I do all the correct things. But I do not attempt to stand akwardly and tap in putts, I mark and come back after my playing partners.
I do this because I have lost count the number of times I have missed from anything from 6 inches to 2 feet because of not giving the due care and attention it deserves.

oh that putt!
It had been a good tee shot, hit the green on par 3 190 yards, couldn't have been further from the flag though so a putt full length of the green was a roll or two from dropping for a birdie.
I should have been chuffed after two good shots but was gutted!! & then ended up with a four!

If only I had a gps distance measuring thingy it would have told me it 3” rather than 1.5 and I would have hit it twice as hard! :D :D

Gonna have to enter some serious negotiations with work & she who must be obeyed to get another round in asap!

There is of course plan b - the sickie

At least the putt taught you one valuable lesson about the true cost of every shot no matter what. Take the positives out of the round and accept you will have some bad holes. The trick is learning how to cope with them and limiting the damage on the hole you are playing and the next few

I literally had the same scenario last week, I matched my partner 42 on the way out but then managed to drop 6 shots over 3 holes leaving me with 90 on the card - best score for me ever, but could of been better. I feel your pain :-)

Hmm, not sure I would, I always find if I have a good round that get so excited about the next one I don't concentrate, probably because I think I've got the game licked, and I have a nightmare and that's REALLY depressing.

Still you've got plenty of room to work with, my best round is 78, that was three years ago and I've never been within 6 shots of that since. On the course I'm playing now I haven't managed better than 91 and arguably I'm actually hitting the ball better now than I was then. Now that's frustrating!
