I doubt he hates the English (he made a football comment a while ago for a rise), he lives in England, married an English girl. He didn't vote in indyref either as he isn't resident in Scotland but did tweet suggesting followers to vote yes.
From what I hear he had to go to Spain to learn the game as the British LTA were so rubbish back then, hopefully that's changed now.
