Last week I joined a local club. Thought I would go for a quick 9 after a hard day.

Ao far I have 3 rounds under my belt (at this club)

I dandered onto the first tee, practice swing then changed to 3 wood for some control - huuuge slice OB. Thought to myself 'thats typical'.

Decided not to keep score, its good to get out - 7 then 5 (par 4 and 3) just really gave up - then a nice wee par came along - followed by another 7 (drive OB par 4).

Not a very inspiring start but then I had a nice 2, well that set me up. kept on hitting greens with some brilliant wedge shots, not a single duff or bladed shot.

Kept score and ended up with 30 points for 12 holes!!!!!

I cant believe it, all I can say is that I went to the practice green and spent 2 hours on Saturday with my wedge and putter. And it really paid dividends tonight.

I Have a lesson with the pro on Friday to try to get this driving sorted - hopefully a wave goodbye to the 28 handycap that has followed me around for the last year like a bad smell. :D

The lesson will probably show your grip is weak, your alignment may be open and I bet anything that you are casting and coming over the top of the ball. Add to that a lack of weigth transfer and a possible reverse pivot. And i also bet your pro has you hitting the ball straighter and further than ever before.

If you can get 30 points after 12 (I only managed 26 in 18 in my last comp ) you are going to get cut really quickly (and maybe win a few pots on the way)

Let us know how the lesson goes

hi ken, glad to see ur finaly posting. U missed a great day on Sunday. The old handicap will come down, don't panic. Plenty of practise and you'll be alright.

Ken a bit of greenside practice will soon see you drop like a stone towards 18-20, if you can, get some coaching from a lower handicapper who can help you choose what iron to play when around the green. Driving etc will come along on its own, if you can chip and putt youre more than half way there.

I need some of this my lob wedge work wa\s poor last night when i played 9 holes back to the problem of taking a bit of ground first, I used to be a wizard with my ping lob wedge but since i got my vokey one its a bit wayward, Might get the lie angles checked as im definately swinging it a bit different.
