most shots on a single hole

I have been very lucky though I have had occasions where I deliberately took numerous shots to get it right through frustration, where normal run of play is concerned I dont believe I have exceeded 10 and only a couple of times at that.

When I was about 12 I once had 7 putts on a green for a 13. I wanted to smash my putter, the flag, hack up the green, you name it. My dad laughed and told me to stop being such a cry baby.

Yep, a 14 on our 3rd hole, a par 5 with an elevated green - with no OOB's and only 2 putts. It became my nemesis hole after that score for about 2 months, a sort of mental block thingy. Thankfully over it now - phew!!

P.S. And no I didn't NR. I carried on and shot 2 under par for the back nine.

Think I ran up a 13 or maybe even a 14 on the 17th (i think!) at Douglas Park, par 3 about 160ish again I cant really remember as I'm still having therapy!

I pulled 4 balls left into the graveyard and played 11 off the tee!

THere I finally got that off my chest, dont ken if it feels any better though!!!

I also had a 12 at our second in a foursome event. My partner went OB so I hit three off the tee and bugger me if he doesn't put the next OB too. I hit the 6th into a bunker and he fails to get out. I get out for 8 short and he chips on. I leave the putt about a foot away and he misses. It wouldn't have been so bad except we were leading at the halfway stage!

My worst is when i had just come back from West Canada so was jet lagged and also hadn't slept that day. First three holes I racked up a 14, 11, 12. But for the rest of the round i played 10 over gross.

If you are wondering why i played, it was becuase we have very few juniors and we had 1 player short for a north west final which they wanted to play in.

Crazy! I know

However, the worst when i actually was awake was an 8. 3 OOB then birdied the hole with my third ball

I think the most I have ever racked up in "competition play" was a 9 on the par 4 9th at Crowborough.
Hit a big slice into the trees down the right off the tee, played a provisional and sliced that too. Couldn't find my first ball but managed to find my second. Hacked it out sideways but landed in some heather. Knobbed a 7 iron towards the green, landed in more heather. Oinked one out of there onto the green and three putted. I had been playing quite steadily up 'til then and got a bit dejected after that.
Thinking about it, it was quite an easy 9.
In a friendly game I would have picked up after 6
;)

12 is my worst in competition. Made a poor choice to play it from gorse, the rest is history.

Watching Goydos blow up whilst leading on 14th Pebble Beach yesterday with that awful 9 and the commentary guys saying your brain just turns to porridge in these situations is so true.

My most memorable high score came in the latter rounds of a match play competition many years ago and is still so vivid in my memory.
My opponent, I was warned, was a 'bandit' off his handicap of 11, the same hadicap as mine - so I got fully prepared for him by spending ages on the practise area. It paid off and we were all square at the turn having both scored circa one over par - great golfing for our respective abilities.
The 10th is a Par 5 and he hit a drive down the centre but my drive ended up in a deep fairway bunker. Realising the pressure was on me to get well down and on with my third, I was too greedy and hit the face - stayed in for my next and just climbed out with my next one. Standing on fairway 50 yards behind him I now cut my next effort, trying for distance, into another bunker still 80 yards from the green.
I was about to concede the hole when he hit this hook into heavy whin, followed by a 2nd and 3rd ball!
We halved the hole in 9!!
As he now realised he could have played the hole with his putter and still won it - it caused his game to disappear and I won without too much effort thereafter.
Maybe 9 is not too high a number but coming from two differing situations on the same hole, following 9 holes of super ball striking - it will be long remembered by me!

What was funny was that he and Johnson were waiting on the 14th fairway watching Molder take a 9 on the green just ahead of them. Goydos commented to Johnson how if you weren't careful that green could ruin your card. Talk about negative thoughts turning into reality!!!
The mind coaches will have a field day with that footage for years to come.

last medal - 1st, par 5 dogleg round the lake

1 - tee shot, short and drowned
3 - topped into the reeds
5 - god knows!
7 - crossed the lake, hit a tree, back in the lake
9 - good contact at last, hit a branch, died
10- finally middle of the fairway - short
11- made it to the green, only to
3 -putt

The pain isn't so deep now i've heard a few of your nightmares. The lads were thinking i was taking the piss and going for a massive handicap raise. 0.2 is what he gave me so i'm still playing off 18.

As a kid on the pitch & putt course on Pentire Headland, Newquay. There was a hole running along the side of a hill which, if you didn't hit the green, led to the ball rolling all the way down to the bottom of the hill.
After about 15 shots, up the hill & then running back down to my feet, I gave up. Didn't help that I was trying to loft a 7 iron up said hill.

A few years ago playing a medal off 6 or 7 I took 13 on the 3rd hole a par 4. Had a real brain fart. Pushed 2nd shot right into thick/heavy cabbage up to my waist. But for some reason I went to look for it and found it. Then for some reason I thought i'd play it , then for some reason I thought i'd keep playing it until eventually it came out and a chip and 2 putts later a nice 13 on the card.

There were so many mental errors going on I cant begin to think what was going through my head (certainly wasnt anything logical)

Played the rest in 11 under and hit my buffer...NOT :D

It's amazing what happens when the brain goes AWOL
I played in a Club Championship qualifier years ago and start 6,10 (2 par 4s)
First was a standard 4 with 2nd ball (drive went OOB)
Second hole, greenside bunker in 2, 6 shots in the bunker and 2 solid putts. (why does the ball always land in your own footprint? :D) Still qualified fot C.C. though.
The next day started 4,4 so already 8 shots better.
Won it in the end by 4 because I DIDN'T N.R. :D
