Dream Alliance

Mare Cost about £200 , a syndicate paid about £5 a week and won the Welsh Grand National - trainer was a pigeon racing trainer

I'm playing golf tomorrow with one of the syndicate (GG26)

Janet Vokes was an experienced breeder of dogs and racing pigeons.
Bought a mare for £350 and a foal was born that they called Dream Alliance.
I think they got a trainer to be one of the syndicate.

1980 Olympic 1500m final.
Gold for Coe and bronze for Ovett.

Cram was 8th, but had done very well to get into the final at age 19.

Also golds for Alan Wells 100m, Daley Thompson Decathlon and Steve Ovett 800m.

I think we have to accept that most of these are quite parochial. A few genuinely international ones, but not many. This would be an interesting one to see from other perspectives. That way we would see a genuinely iconic list.
