Most iconic sports photos

Roger Bannister breaking the 4 minute mile. I’ve always looked on this with a slightly jaundiced eye. Yes, he broke the 4 minute barrier but in a paced run, not in a race.

I vaguely remember a story from many years ago contesting the validity of Bannister’s run because it was paced but the reality is he ran the mile in less than 4 minutes. I did remember that it was an Australian, John Landy, who was the first person to break the barrier in a competitive race - I had to Google his name… old age had hidden the brain cell storing the knowledge.

The first race in which 2 runners broke the 4 minute mile saw Bannister beat Landy. Landy was leading as they were coming off the last bend but as he glanced over his left shoulder to see where Bannister was, Bannister passed him on the right.

Yeah, smoking is disgusting, but I think the button-up cardi should make a comeback in pro golf tournaments.
I had a couple of cardigans as a cool 17-20 year old about the same time that photo was taken.
Pringle with the wee red lion. Also had a waistcoat navy blue cardii which was a thing of great beauty
Bottom button always undone for real class

Not forgetting the Lambretta, Lions Tail and Parka
