Mosque Shooting in NZ

France is a damn sight closer than new Zealand and that will have a factor on people’s views because of the EU and the freedom of movement ..

And that works how for the sympathy shown for America.......?

A bloke drove into a mosque here too, again a lot less support on social media. It’s blatantly obvious that Muslims get less sympathy. Its an unfortunate after effect of us being told that Muslims are terrorists. Which is what is suggested whenever another terrorist attacked happens, as opposed to a white lunatic attacking.

You may not have noticed but we all have heads between our shoulders and can understand what an atrocity is, we will also make our own decisions whether we need to jump onto social media to express our views.

I haven’t expressed any views on any attack on social media that must mean I have zero sympathy

Try reading my post again. I never suggested sympathy is ONLY shown to people on these shores, did I? I said you would expect MORE people to comment when the atrocity happened in their own countries. Please stop the blame game, its unnecessary.

Sorry but I disagree entirely. There have been examples of Muslims being hurt in these shores and they get less sympathy than those in other countries. I personally think that it’s naive to suggest Muslims are thought as highly in general. That is down to the last 20 years of attacks that people claiming to be Muslim have committed.

It’s not a slight on the people showing or not showing people. But at least from the small portion of people I know and see, be that in real life, or Facebook/Twitter. This case has a lot less coverage.

Is that what I said?

Did I say explicitly that anyone who doesn’t post is unsympathetic?

But if 20% of my Facebook feed for example is full of posts about an attack on non Muslims and yet I have seen 0 posts about this attack, it would to me suggest a trend.

Considering fb has changed so much and doesn’t even show the latest posts in your feed unless you ask it to every single time I’d say someone has posted something

My twitter and fb is full of posts condemning the attacks

Surely if the faults of FB are to blame for me not seeing anything, you’d not see it either?

Or does it only play up when it suits?

Only joking mate, I know the order it shows stuff is crack, but I’ve been through enough posts of cats dancing and golf posts to know that there’s been nowt on my feed. Could just be that my friends are less concerned.

Our daughter in law was in Christchurh at the time of the shooting. She said it was knockdown.

Think you have to be there to really appreciate the tragedy

just drop it now please. Its not the time for finger pointing.

Blimey, people horribly murdered and all we get on here is points scoring.
Why am I not surprised?

It's how the majority of threads on here go, absolutely no subject it would seem are exempt.

Hearing the stories from those directly involved are harrowing and I hope no one here ever has to deal with it.

I don’t know your age or who you have to on fb but If you say have 50 friends who don’t use it much you won’t see it much

As I’m 32 and when fb launched everyone was on it I’ve got tones of people who I’ve met in various forms so I get so many posts and re tweets

36, been on it since 2007 and honestly not a peep been said. Tbf I don’t have an abundance of friends on there (102) as I tend to use it for people I consider friends and still see, nit just Mary I went to school with or Tim I played one round of golf with. Not that I’m criticising those that do. Just saying that there’s a noticeable difference in the opinions this time. Of course it is a smaller sample size.

Just to give my comments a bit of a base

above are the two threads for the Manchester and London Bridge attack by Islamic Terrorists

You will clearly see the different attitudes

A lot of the comments on this thread are more pointing towards being horrified that some people think less sympathy is given to Muslim victims.

Quick poll of how many of us live in these city’s ? And how many have even been to New Zealand .... case and point

Have caught up with our friends in Christchurch now and the one of them's office is 100 yards from the Bealy Ave mosque and were locked down as it seems most of the city was. Also looks like our old neighbours husband was on duty yesterday , he's an ED doctor. I can not begin to imagine the terror and shock they've been through
