I have been looking at Montecastillo for a weeks holiday with HID (non golfer) in May, I think some forum members have been there and would appreciate some advice re how to get there, car hire, booking direct or travel agent, all inclusive o not, walking/buggy policy..........thanks

Theres a very interesting hotel (name is fahi or something like it) around Jaref.

If its still there don't take HID!

Didn't play golf at Montecastillo sadly, but I worked on a tour event there about 15 yrs ago.

Montecastillo is a Nicklaus course and a fairly typical one. Generous driving areas and gets tighter as you get close to the green. I haven't played it for more than 10 years but still remember it as a pretty good course. It is a buggy course for most people with a lot of uphill walks and some tees separated from the last green. The on site hotel used to be quite expensive, but Jerez has a lot of accommodation. There are some other good courses nearby, so not a bad base for a few days golf. You can get there from Malaga or Gibraltar.

Went there 3 years ago as 4 - booked through YGT - £100 each

For the price it was fantastic - really good course but does get a bit windy and would recommend buggies - we walked the first day and there are long walks between tees.

Some really great driving holes - putting green and range also impressive.

Would recommend going all inclusive - simply because you have your own San Miguel tap in the bar you can help yourself too.

Jerez nearby isn't too bad for a night out - we ended up hiring a car and split the holiday with a city break to Seville.

This.

went there 2years ago for 4 nights and had a great time. This was with a group of blokes though. As a couple, the spa facilities are also really good.

A little bit bare outside of the hotel, but for the price its a steal.

I've been there a few times ........................ and I love it!
The course is superb and we always go all inclusive as it's stupidly good value.
The down side is that you can't tee off before 11.00am if you want to walk!
We always walk, and the youngest of us is 58, and it's quite easy to walk as long as you take a bottle of water and fill it at every water fountain.
Oh, and there's not much to do outside the hotel.
There's also a tennis court if you fancy that.

I hate buggy golf, but if there is a course you should use a buggy it is this one.

Its not an easy walk at all. you cross roads a number of times, the walk between 3 - 4, 6-7, 9-10 12-13, 13-14 are large.

I dread to think how long the round would take walking it.

and as i said, this is coming from someone who absolutely hates buggy golf

Yes, it takes a while, but we're on holiday and I'd sooner be on the course than sitting by a swimming pool.
Oh, and what a fantastic sound track as car and bikes hammer round the motor racing circuit!
