Mobile Phone upgrade due in ten days.......

That is a bit harsh Ethan,we have nowt to do with BT any more! Have you ever spoke to a guru? We are all about customer service! Anyway,I am in no means an official forum O2 rep, just giving my 2 cents.

I was dubious about changing to 3 but its been absolutely fantastic. Great service and as I say the best 3G coverage in the UK.

Same as me Crawford, I think they're pretty good.

I've got a sim only deal with them (100 free minutes, 3000 text messages and 2gb data) for £10 a month and I went and bought an HTC desire which is still great, but I am thinking of rooting it soon.

I can't see any value in spending £40 a month over 2 years at a cost of £960 over the contract term when you can get a Samsung Galaxy SIII for about £450 then add on £240 for the sim only contract (which is a rolling monthly one, so if you find a cheaper deal you can swap over quickly). The way I do it saves me several hundred quid over the term of the contract with the 'free' phone.

3 are a disgrace as a mobile phone company, they'll always be one customer they have that is delighted but for that 1 there will be 100 totally dissatisfied.

Most of the operators are pretty poor and it really is down to who you deal with. I'm sticking with o2 as I feel better talking to someone in this country and any issues have been resolved and there have been some lulu's but I think o2 are the best of a vary bad bunch.

@Delb, wait for the iPhone5 it will blow the iPhone4's sox off and you'll regret going to the young pretender companies.
Can I ask what tarrif your on at £40PM as I pay considerably less and dont use all my minutes or text's

I know what you mean Deke as I work for the Devil incarnate (Sky) and it's widely known that we are such (despite 10.6m customers subscribing). Problem that any guru system has is that the guru's make up a tiny percentage of the customer facing population and as such deal with a relative number of customers (who I'm sure all get a fantastic service), meanwhile the mass populous base gets the centralised service which is definitely not guru level.

Think it's 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB data. To be fair, I over-estimated how much I'd need when I took the contract out two years ago.

If it is a phone problem you have Greg then it is a guru you should be talking to as most shops have them now.You can also ask to talk to one over the phone.

Phone problem was a minor issue. Billing was the main problem and then when it came to upgrade time I gave them opportunity to retain my custom and all they did was regurgitate some operating script. Too late now anyway, already cancelled and moved over to Voda, who actually seemed to want my custom.

N.B: Not one of the contact centre advised on the guru system when I did have the handset problems though, customers can't be expected to instinctively know that they exist and how to contact them.

I have just done my upgrade and went for the Galaxy S3 and I am very happy so far Some say it is big and that was a slight concern of mine but actually the bigger screen makes it far more practical for doing all the other things that I use the phone for (especially surfing the net, emails etc). It is also the first phone that I have been happy watching films etc (mainly BBC I Player). The quality of the screen is really high end.The phone is quick, easy to use and looks smart. To me, slightly better thant he Iphone 4S but that is always going to be a personal thing. Rumour is that the next Iphone is going to have a similar size screen as well.

To be fair, you are never going to know whether you like a phone until you have played with it for a month or so and at least with the Galaxy being a new release I felt I could flog it for enough to buy something else if I really did not like it.

... and not sure what to do.

Presently have an iPhone 4 on O2 and whilst I love the phone and what it does, am not prepared to shell out over £40 a month again. Also, haven't been overly impressed with O2 over the period, as texts etc have been delayed on numerous occasions, in one case taking three days to hit my phone!!

Mate of mine has just got a hold of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but it looks absolutely massive to me and fairly flimsy in terms of build quality.

Had thought about maybe just a SIM only deal for a few months until official news of the iPhone 5 breaks.

Any views?

Cheers guys.

Sim only deal del, 500mb data, 900 mins and unlimited texts £21! The 5 will be out within 4 mnths

Wow,there is a lot of nonsense getting posted in this thread! I don't know if you know this guys, but my job is a guru(retail technical specialist) for O2 and I have worked in the mobile phone industry for almost 4 years.Craw, where are you getting your info from about 3? They own the least amount of 3g masts in the UK! they also have no 2g network at all,so if you ever venture out of a populated area, good luck getting a signal at all! The S3 is a really good handset, but if I were you I would wait till autumn(go on a one month sim only until then) and see how good the Iphone 5 is.You should be able to get it for less than £40 a month as long as you pay something up front.

97.4% Coverage of Britains population. 02 have 80% 3G coverage

Stick to selling O2 when your dealing with O2. Also get full coverage in the sprawling metropolis that is Machrihanish which is hardly a "major populated area!"

Yip, it's their simplicitly deal, I explained what I was looking to do and the offered this. It's another 12 month deal but you can upgrade from it anytime. Its worth the call big fella

Thanks Martin. Sounds like the best option in the short term.

are you serious? 3 use the orange network for 2g services ... The idea of getting no signal at all is ridiculous, or rather it's just as ridiculous as getting no signal on O2 ... Which from my friends comments is quick a lot of places !!

Btw, best one month deal I found was with tesco 500mins/5000txt/500mb for £10 per month!!
... They use O2 for their network.

...personally I have a virgin mobile one month deal 125mins/5000txt/500mb for £7 a month.

If it helps.i just got...

iPhone 4s 16gb from phones4u for free, £31 a month, 300 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited 3G for 3 months then 500mb after on a 24 month contract.

£100 cash back through quidco

£94 for my 3GS on a recycling site

THEN 20% off my monthly bill for being a local government employee...so

£24 a month, I'll have that. Thank you.

When a network use another they do not get the same coverage, only a smaller amount of the available bandwith.I work next door to a 3 shop and get most of my info directly from my pals who work there! At least in my area the 3 signal is poor in most places,as is the Orange/T-Mobile one.

Craw if 3 are so great, why are they the smallest(in terms of sales) provider? As has been said before,I rarely hear good things about them, and most of their employees are with different networks!
At the end of the day I urge anyone to go with the provider that gives them the best signal and tariff value,I am not selling anything, just trying to help Del.
