Having been advised after a session on the Vector Launch Monitor to change my current irons (MX15's) to MX25's a few weeks ago, I went into AG yesterday and tried out them out and was very very impressed, the contact, feel etc was great much better than my MX15's. In fact on the VLM in AG I reached a total distance of 172 yrds with a 7 iron!

As I understand the MX25 is being fazed out and replaced by the MX200, so the questions I have are as follows:-

1. I hit my 15's ok, and hit my current 7 iron 160yrds. Do i change just because the VLM advises that I have less of a cavity to gain extra yardage?

2. If yes, is there going to be much of a difference in technology between the MX25 and the MX200. They are both Forged and my current MX15's are cast?

3. To me this is too good a deal to resist. Golf Warehouse UK are doing the MX25's for £292, but I also get 10% off EVERYTHING until 21st December thus making these available for only £263!!!

4. Is there anything else that I should consider?

HELP :D

If your consistent with what you use i would stick! 160 yrds is ok for a seven iron not as if you need more distance!

anyway its probable that the mx25s are stronger lofted!!

so i would keep the set you have!

Have you hit the MX200 mate? If not wait until you do, also consider the MP52, I was very very tempted by them when I went for a play.

Just got back in from the first range session with my mx200 and have called in sick to work tomorrow to go out and lay with them (sssshhhh!!!!!)

Doctor, doctor

Don't bother......spend the money on lessons.....sod the VLM.

Next please. :)

The only reason I'd say change is if the 15's are getting a bit tired. They're not the most recent Mizuno iron so if they are starting to look old then change. Otherwise stay put - you've still got a great set of irons in your bag.

I'd probably argue that if you are playing well with the old ones that you are better off keeping them. Mizuno is not a brand I'm up on so I can't advise on how far their technology has moved on.

I guess you could try hitting as much of their range as possible and seeing what feels right. I suppose winter is as good as time as any to buy new clubs as you can get to grips with them on the range instead of trying to slog through sodden fairways, flooded bunkers and winter greens

I agree with this, then again, if they are not proper Mizunos I'd have got shot of them years ago....if they are as horrible as the MX-17, which I have seen for real, then the bin is a suitable place.

I didnt hit the MX200 mate, but let me know how you get on with them today.

I do hit my MX15's well and see no real need to exchange them to be honest, it was just that the MX25's felt good to hit (better than my current) so theorectically would I be upgrading? I bought the Mx15's as a budget iron to get me started so I'm thinking that these might be the next step up.

Also, I see getting them for £263 as a bit of a bargain, the cheapest at AG & Direct Golf are £399. The MX200's are available at around £450.

The other thing on my mind is to do what TonyN has done and go along to Mizuno's fitting centre in South Wales and try out the free fitting service.

With your handicap custom fitting will defo help you, if you have the money, fancy a treat and fancy getting custom fitting you know what to do.

Hi,
The biggest thing with the irons is ball flight i had the mx17's and had a a way too high ball flight i assume the mx15 as they are a set for a high handicapper are the same i would get custom fitted for the correct shaft and then pick which head feels best if you got a few quid for your mx15's the cost of changing would not be that high.

Mike is right, kind of.

Its 90% about the shaft and 10% head. If you hit most heads the same then thats fine.

I tried the 57's and they felt no different than the 52's so based on that I could of chose, but the 57's didnt launch the ball as high as the 52's(which are designed to launch higher) both had the nippon shaft in. In the end I really only had one choice.

But if both heads perfrom the same with the correct shaft in, only then does it come down to feel, looks etc. IMO.

While trying to decide on my new sticks, I hit the MX-25's, and was really impressed. Came down to them or the AP2's. I went for the AP2's in the end, but would rate the Mizuno's highly, they were just a bit too soft for me (is that odd?). Having not hit the others, I couldn't comment on improvements, but I certainly felt that the 25's were good bats.
