Need to regrip an iron set and my current set are Golf Pride MCC Plus 4's, which I like.

Will standard Tour Velvets with 4 layers of tape do the same job?

Sounds a daft question to type, but the Plus 4's are almost twice the price and will end up costing more than the irons

I think the plus 4 means 4 layers of tape under the lower hand only.

Yes, hated them. The Plus 4's work well, maybe I need to stop trying to be tight, but will only use the clubs 6 times a year.

Just beware that extra tape obviously stretches the rubber and changes the feel of the grip. It will feel harder and reduce the shock absorption. The +4 grips are presumably built up with thicker rubber rather than tape so feel nicer than a DIY +4; especially as it's your lower, ungloved hand on that bit of the grip.

Actually decided to go MCC instead of Tour Velvet - 8 for ninety five quid.

I prefer the grip, so decided not to be so tight and like the red version I play already.

That’s a great price for 8, pricey grip but they’re top notch.

Long story short the club pro twisted my arm to try the Golf Pride CP2 Wrap, as they are for use abroad (read warm weather), so he took the MCC into stock and fitted these instead, with enough tape to replicate the Plus 4's.
