Just booked a club fitting at the Mizuno custom fit centre in New Malden. Anyone been down there? First available weekend is beginning of May, which is OK since I'm away most of April...... Looking forward to it already. Have to start squirrelling away some monies in case I become convinced that I need shiny new sticks..... :D

Yes had a fitting on th 18th Feb. Played 36 holes since new irons arrived, clubs arrived 3rd March. As you would expect with a 28hcp i don't swing well consistently. However, my good shots are lower, longer and more consistent which is what i wanted. Be warned the range balls are expensive so turn up early and go straight through AG and the range and Mizuno should give you some free warm up balls.

I changed Big bertha 2008 irons reg shaft for JPX 800 stiff shafts even though my swing speed is only 80mph, maybe slower when i try and take it a bit easier. I was initailly worried that the shaft would be wrong but trust the DNA results and find out which of the three shaft recommendations works for you. DNA really does work. I used to hit my old 6 iron at about a 30 degree launch angle with a six iron. The fitter said we should try for around 20 degrees whilst Luke Donald hits around the 13 degree. The change of shaft and head got it down to 22 and the rest is now down to me i guess.

On my first round i hit my 7 iron several times to approx 135 yards, no run due to soft greens. Normally in the summer i would have hit a 7 iron 130 when hit well if i got some run. Hit my 6 iron for the first time off the tee and had a nice ball mark in the centre of the sweet spot. Almost tempted to mount the club on the wall.

The only negative really is that my inconsistent swing meant we never got round to trying the driver. However, i might wait and see if they introduce a DNA monitor for driver swings. Would appreciate it if you could ask the fitter if they plan to do this.

Have a good visit.

I re-booked into New Malden for a fitting as I had to cancel the first one, but i'm thinking of changing to the Belfry to try a range of different clubs, would you guys who have been to Mizuno say its a better fitting setup to the Belfry or the same.

my m8 went to the belfry to get fitted for new irons and he couldnt praise the service he got enough.. he came away with a new set of taylormade burners and a very happy chap!!

I had a fitting there in December but in the end I bought Titleist AP'2

The range, for me isn't great for fitting as Mizuno use the top deck and because its man made at ground level you dont get to see you shot stop.

They made a basic error during the fitting too which suprised me with regard to my shaft length

Enjoy it though and be open minded, but question in your mind what they say

I have to admit i didn't like their range. However, they do pull across a net and use a trackman with titleist balls to give you better information. Their range as a bouncy angles ground in an attempt to get the balls to funnel back using water gulleys.

Does any other manufacturer have anything similar to DNA fitting or are the others a case of just trial and error?

I've been there. The fitters themselves I've always found pretty good. I think HTL use to practice down there too and got his Mizzy's there. It is a funny set up with an artificial covering on the floor and raised back to front so balls run off into drainage like ditches where water pressure feeds them back to a collection point
