Misunderstood rules

... and the fact that the ball can roll a further 2 club lengths after it has been dropped.

I would say this was one of the main ones people don't know about. I've had people swear blind I've got to re-drop because my ball has run just outside the original two club lengths' relief afte being dropped

There are some who seriously believe that they can drop a ball somewhere near the spot where it went out of bounds.

Loads of people seem to have no idea where to drop a ball when they lose their original one. A common misconception seems to be that you drop on the line between where you played the ball and where you lost it...instead of on a line keeping the point where you lost it between you and the hole.

Just goes to show how easy it is to confuse rules. If you lost it in a water hazard then this would be true but for a simple lost ball then the rule is simple.

Play the ball from as close as possible to where you played your last shot under penalty of 1 stroke. Also known as under penalty of stroke and distance.

Dropping back on an extension of the line from ball to hole only applies if the ball is found but you deem it unplayable.

Oops...my mistake! That's what I meant. Honest. Unless it's lost in a water hazard...I think.
