This week myself and a few forumers ex forumers and mates booked into play at Pennard for their 4BBB Open

As it was on the Tuesday we decided to add a course on the Monday and Wednesday

So Monday we went to Tenby

It is an old school links - a bit rough and ready in places but some very tough holes , at £40 it’s a bargain

We then played Pennard which IMO is prob one of the most fun courses I have played , stunning views , brilliant holes and some quirky ones. A course you need to think at times and one that can’t be over powered. Loved it and will go back again - at £40 a pair it’s amazing value

Then today we went to Ashburnham- an out and in links , don’t really see the coast much but a real test , greens excellent and bunkering really brutal - £55 for the round

So overall for three days golf it’s was £115 per person

Great fun - highly recommend all three courses

Going to be down there next week. Hoping to get a game or two and those courses are all possibilities. Think Pennard looks the pick of the bunch?

Pennard is just a great course - a mixture of fun , tough , challenging holes - you can play sensible and get punished or take big risks and get away with it - didn’t stop smiling

The 16th is a hole that wouldn’t look out of place on any top course

Porthcawl is the best this way if you want to spend a bit more...(price of an average course in Surrey!! :) )

Ashburnham or Pennard next... probably prefer Pennard. Tenby is very good, but has an odd finish. Machynys is great if dry. But not links and spoilt but views od houses and steelworks. Nevertheless, a great test.

If you want signing in at Newport on the way past, let me know!

(And note, no mention of Celtic Manor)

South Wales is very underrated and offers great value!

I was a junior member at Pennard in 1971/2 along with my dad and older brother. Loved those pictures above.
Playing it in the wind and horizontal drizzle - now that is a real test.
Looks like you had a lovely day. Wish I could have been there.

Great little trip - sounds fun.

How would you rate Tenby compared with the others?

I agree there is good value in this part of Wales.

A few of us from the club are planning a similar jaunt next year, playing Braid courses as we can get on at Member's guest rate..
Pennard is on the list.

What a beautiful area to find yourselves in with the cracking weather. Lovely photos, thank you.

Used to holiday in Tenby as a kid regularly and love the area, but have never played golf around there. Definitely on the to do list.

For me Pennard for the top course of the three with Tenby being better than Ashburnham- it had a nice mix of holes , it was a shame the greens had been worked on in the last couple of weeks but they were still good- what really let it down was the bunkers - they were appalling

What might look like Phil's least interesting pic of Pennard is, in my view, quite the opposite. I have put an arrow where the pin might be over the hump. There is a bit of fairway area to the right of the green for the faint-hearted. It is a par 3 over 200 yards.
The overhead pinched from the internet better explains. Hope my memory is correct after nearly 50 years. Pretty unforgettable hole, though.
