I had a Panerai years ago, but sold it on for the very reason you said, looked ridiculous on my chicken armI wore my Panerai 111 my wife bought me when we got married yesterday for our wedding anniversary.
It’s a lovely watch but it’s a bit big and in your face, hence it’s known as the Mr Magoo watch.
I used to collect watches, but now I don’t, the cost is prohibitive but I have kept everything and all need a service but they have proven to offer more value than any car I have owned.
Best watch shown so far ...
You either get it or you don’t in my opinion, I’ve collected watches since 2009, really enjoyable hobbyWatch threads sadly tend to attract quality Swiss made watch haters, so one I'll unsubscribe from.
Look at Toshi straps, absolutely top quality at a reasonable price

It’s not just buying watches though, if your mechanically minded, you can really appreciate the work that goes into watch movements, some of the complications are unbelievable. Is buying watches a hobby?

I’ve got loads of different straps which I chop and change on my watches as well.
Good question. I have two but have bought them more as a long term investment. I don't wear either of them.Is buying watches a hobby?

I bought this Longines La Grande Presence for my 30th birthday back in 1996...
I love unfussy simple clean dials. As I've "grown more skin" over the years this is a bit of a tight fit these days and, with its quite small 31mm dial and very shallow (5mm) depth, it can get easily lost on my wrist, so sadly I dont wear it anymore, preferring a more chunky Hyrdoconquest as my day to day watch.

Clean, unfussy and classy.Similar story, but lower budget, I bought this Longines for my 21st birthday in the early 1980s, 30 mm dial (34mm over case) 8 mm thick including the glass.
I very rarely wear mine these days either, special occasions only.
