Received the membership renewal letter today and in it, it said:

"As a thank you for your loyalty and support over this past winter of extreme weather, we have decided to hold subscriptions at the current levels. In other words we will not be passing on to you the increases in operating costs, VAT and Golf Union affiliation fees".

Also, for anybody that pays in a lump sum, if received before 1st April we will receive a £50 credit to our bar account.
On top of that, if we introduce a 7 day member to the club a further £50 will be credited to bar account.

I'm quite pleased with this incentive, although not large amounts, every little helps as they say. All credit to the club for introducing these measures to reward loyalty and in trying to increase new membership.

What if anything is your club doing for you? :)

Golfmmad.

I am honestly not bothered what my club do about prices. £100 for a year + £40 for a locker. Even a 50% increase on the yearly subs would not affect that price greatly.

I am just glad I don't have to pay full fees for another 9 years :)

Our fees have been held this year too.

It has been a poor year for the economy so I am not surprised as there are many other demands on peoples money than golf. Clubs have to hold onto members they have at a time when money is tight.

I don't think ours rose by much at all this year although I think we'll still struggle to get a full quota of members. We are working hard and looking at ways of spreading the cost particularly the joining fee (whether there should be one is by the by as them be the rules). My wife has got a new job starting tomorrow at Sand Martins in Wokingham and apparently they are more expensive than my club and you have to pre-book a tee time every time you want to play.

That said it is a top quality set up and a decent course which has been fully open despite the heavy rain so I guess that goes a long way to explaining it.

All the kids of full paying members get free junior membership with coaching thrown in free as well. Cannot get my lad interested, too busy trying to be the next Ozzy Osbourne, can't blame him I suppose. Good offer though for the kids that would like to follow in their old mans footsteps.

Our fees got banged up £40 this year, but my youngest joined and he pays £52 a year ,which is held at that rate for 4 years and thats all there lessons thrown,so even more excuses to be there, plus we've go the Final Qualifying for The Open so the course should be pristine.

Ours is going up by the tiny, tiny, sum of £306 per year. Yes, that's up by, not up to. There's reasons, but it's still a kick in the parts that'll make your eyes water.

"Under the current economic climate, we are only increasing the subs by a minimal amount"

or by exactly the same amount he's raised them every year...

Got a feeling ours are staying put. They're charging the EGU fees separately rather than adding them to the overall cost but it's the same amount.

Just joined my club as they had a deal on. Instead of the yearly subs of £700 plus £1400 joining fee they offered me golf from April to September for £700.

Increased club subs by £10 and made it look like it was only a fiver (club subs are £130 with £30 levy), the council are increasing the season ticket from £362 to £382 I believe, but it covers five tracks in Leeds.. So giving me nothing but taking an extra £30.

If I stay at Highwoods this year my monthly direct debit payment goes up by £9.00.
I make that £108.00 increase.
I think that's just made my decision to leave a little bit easier

My clubs agm is tonight so the fees will be set then. They usually go up by £10 each year so I would expect that the fees this year will be £230. There are no incentives but those prices are a lot cheaper than other people on here pay so I have no complaints. Also as there is no need to book a tee time you can get on the course anytime you like so it is easy to get your money's worth.

HID is working at a golf club near me and they are more expensive and have £200+ as a bar levy. Mind you the course does look in good nick and the facilities are pretty top drawer too so I guess its a case of getting what you pay for. I thought Ascot was the most expensive locally (apart from Sunningdale, Wentworth, Berkshire of course)

Be interesting to see what our club does this year, they have sent two letters in the last month explaining how much trouble they are in financially, so much so, they are talking about selling 2 holes and half the car park, have offered 10 life memberships at very reduced rates and bonds in the club. As well as asking for donations.

I'm moving house so possibly courses too, but all depends on what the club do with the prices.
