McGinley's Dilemma

When did either last do it at the top level - have far back shall we go and pick players just because they have played in the RC but no longer challenge on any of the main tours.

Their time has passed - over a decade ago

Bottom line is, they can stand on the 1st tee and not fill their pants unlike some of the less experienced players. Some of the rookies have been like rabbits in car headlights. Andrew Coltart springs to mind.

So one rookie - what about the others since then ?

Remember when Poulter and Rose were rookies and gained lots of points - GMac and Rory and Celtic Manor - the Molinaria at Celtic Manor - Colsearts at the last RC

Wasn't Coltart not played until the last day ? Poor management of a rookie

These players have played in the biggest comps in golf and will be fine

Glad Gallacher got picked. Wouldn't have gone with Westwood ahead of Donald or Luiten though. Would bank on them sinking a winning putt ahead of Westwood. Europe looking incredibly strong though.

Sounds like he wants Langer there as a vice captain

Anyone know, does the order have any relevance within the wildcard selection process?

i.e Gallacher first, Poulter then Westwood

Very happy with those choices. I think in matchplay where a medal score isn't the agenda Westwood and Poulter will again prove themselves as ideal partners and Gallagher I fancy will relish the opportunity in front of the home fans

Mmm not sure about that. They've been placed in 10,11 & 12 after the 9 other players that aren't in alphabetical order

Because the first were in order of points

Then they filled them up with the three in alphabetical order

Same as the other captains have done in previous years

And when they full team is all sorted they will do it in Alphabetical order.

Europe have always done it that way to ensure they players all feel as equal and a team

As opposed to the yanks who used to have their players in points order - even when announcing them at the opening ceremony

Westwood is a good pick, despite middling form this season he has a good RC record and that experience must help. Poulter is a definite pick on past peformances alone. Gallagher is very steady but I wonder in all seriousness if they needed a Scot Monty could have played, not his biggest fan but his seniors debut season successes seem to have him re-motivated and another with a great RC record.
