maybe a stupid question are you allowed to take divot on practice swing?

I'd do what I do with any playing partner........

I start walking forward after they hit their ball, then pick up and throw their divot back to them. So he'd either get the idea straight away or he'd be questioning why I keep throwing lumps of turf at him ;)

We do exactly that. Difference being we understand to look after the course. Clearly the chap in the OP doesn't.
 
its not uncommon or impolite to throw divots back to people. in fact I view it as good etiquette! it also saves me a 10 yard walk! :rofl:
