Maximum handicap 18?

Hopefully I'll have more time to get some comps played over the next month or so to get my H'cap down to mid-teens when I can find some consistency.

That's a bit blase Mr Moderator sir! :p

For someone with a handicap of 19 and has gone up 2 .1's

Think you need to play a lot more comps and then you might come down a bit. Not being funny but you make it sound like a given that you will get to a mid handicap by just playing a little more.

It may not be as easy as that, but great if you do.

if i coudn't get down to 18 within the first 6 month of joining a club i would give the game up all together. i would feel embarassed to tell anyone that i played golf and my handicap was above it.

Do i take it from this you are not in a club & have no handicap ..?? as for been embarrased to tell people . who are you playing golf for ? you or other people .. what are you playing golf for ?? enjoyment or show ?? Have you ever played a stroke play comp off back tees with a score card in your hand ?? golf is a past time & is open to all levels .. so long as your handicap is honest & true reflection of your game then fine .. no matter what the number says

"Welcome, get a h/cap and get it down to max 18, no-one should get more than 1 stroke per hole."

I liked this comment. :)

I saw it (I think) for what it was, a challenge more than a dig.

Everyone should aim to get to 18. I lost in medal (came 3rd) to an unspectacular round t'other day from a 24 h'cap player. I know, 'cause I played with him. 1 par, 2 doubles and 15 bogeys. I lost to a player that made 1 par!

To be honest, 18 should be enough for anyone. When you first start playing you probably can't play to 28 so why not play off 18?

There should never be a situation in golf where a Par can earn you 4 stableford points, it just isn't right :D

i am a member of a club and of course i've played a comp off back tees. my handicap is 3 and only took 1 year to get there with no lessons i started on 12.

if you cant play to a decent standard after a few month then you shoudn't be on the course. all high handicappers do is hold everyone else up and are the cause of slow play

That's actually not true, I play with some high h'cappers who play very quickly and some lower h'cappers who play very slowly. Speed of play isn't just about the number of shots you take. If it was, the Pro's wouldn't take 5 hours to get round.

the pros make a living out of it so every single shot can cost thousands of pounds, i think i'd take my time then.

but from what i've seen its always the high handicap player holding the groups up. they should start a rule at clubs that if you cant play to a handicap of 18 and no more then you cant join. simples

Thank you, yes it was ;)

That's a surefire way to increase membership fees if ever I heard one.

Then I'm sure you would also be happy when your subs were at least doubled and the prices in the clubhouse increased by a similar amount to make up for the loss of members and clubhouse revenue.

Elitist attitude + no economic forethought = bankruptcy......Simples.

You are fantastic. I hope to see your name on the European Tour rosta some day...!!!!

Lighten up. For most people it is a past time. I play off 28 because I only play 2 maybe 3 rounds a month. I played a round on my own and it took me 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete the round so maybe SOME high Handicappers hold up play I am sure just as many guys that are playing off a lower HC will take time because they want to lower their HC therefore take more time over a shot...!!!

There is obviously a strong case for 2 completely different types of golf clubs - one for people like golfer 110 and one for the rest of us plebs. I wonder which will have the most attractive membership fees?

what a great idea ive heard some daft ideas on here but this ones a winner, if theres a village somewhere missing it,s idiot ive found him :D

THere are many more rasons for slow play than the ability of the player, although it has to take longer to hit 100 shots than 70 even if a lot of them are putts.
It does annoy sometimes when Fragger, who isn't the worst golfer in the world despite what I might lead you all to believe, plays a relatively straight-forward par 4 like a complete pillock and claims 6 for 1 point after which he moves onto a difficult par 4 and then claims 4 for 4...

and don't get me started on the 7 for 1's...
Luckily he doesn't get enough shots to have a chance of an 8 for 1...
