What happened to Sabine Schmidt? Is she still part of it?

I still think it is strange that they had open auditions to only later fill it with known people.
(no, I didn't apply and didn't get rejected)

Really like Matt Le Blanc, but I fear that the new TG is going to be a complete dud and therefore will end after 1 maybe 2 series. For me what made the old Top Gear so watchable was the friendship between Clarkson, Hammond and May, particularly all the 'Specials' (Vietnam, USA and Burma especially).

It'll depend very much on the format, if they try to replicate what CMH had it will likely flop, they need to find a new direction and niche

Whilst I appreciate that Hammond and May were not very famous when they started, the stakes are a lot higher now and I suspect Schmidt has not got a lot of 'star appeal' to bring viewers in. Damn fine driver I am sure, but if all they do is fill it full of great drivers it will end up being 5th Gear. May be she will have some kind of specialist driving role though, but doubt they would trail her as a main presenter.

Top Gear worked well, previously, with a 'knob' as the centre of attention...

at least that knob would slate something he didn't like or didn't think was any good.

Evans on the other hand thinks or says everything is great, Ive never heard him be critical about anything. i have to switch off Radio 2 when he's on, every guest is the best every product is the best, etc.

every time i see evans i cant get the immage of him dressed as tarzan at my mates girlfriends 18th,scrawny gingger with stupid gigs, this was in the days he did kissagrams in warrington.

Not convinced by the revamped Top Gear and this announcement hasn't changed my opinion. Of course it depends what they do with it and how they plan to revitalise the show and it turn out to be very good

The Stig's German cousin

Le Blanc already presents Top Gear on the BBC Brit channel (not sure how long he's been doing it)

Basically he stands around and introduces/closes the programme when they show re-runs of TG 'races' between Clarkson etc. He's very heavily scripted and even though he's only on screen for a couple of minutes he comes across as wooden like someone off the shopping channel

If he's to work on the actual TG then he'll need to ditch the scriptwriter

Well it's who you know then, I always thought that the objet of Top Gear was for petrol heads or those who had a job in automotive writing to be involved. At least love or hate JC, RH and JM all had jobs involving cars.

The object of Top Gear is to entertain the most number of people as possible.

It stopped being a show about cars years ago and has been an entertainment show mostly featuring cars for ages. Both leblanc and Evans are big car nuts, but as many have stated, you need the presenters to gell and work together more than you need them to know the BHP of a Ford Mondeo. They will no doubt ensure they have one complete car geek who knows all that stuff as the final presenter.

Top Gear was successful because of the three presenters

A connection between the three of them appeared naturally and they then went and did want most grown adults wanted to do - mess around with cars and travel the world having a laugh - the appeal was the stuff they got up to and it was all natural - it showcased all sorts of cars , it allowed "celebrities" to show themselves to be a bit more human and it appealed to both men and women

Right now the BBC are attempted to create the connection and IMO it's not going to happen , if it attempts to copy the old Top Gear it will fall flat on its face , if it attempts to make it more about the cars then it becomes Fifth Gear which is dull as dishwater.

Matt Le Blanc is a bit wooden , Evans is a marmite presenter who likes himself and gets car sick ?! Plus one guy no one has ever heard off - it all seems to me to be a recipe for disaster and I give it a series and more will watch Dave repeats.

What I predict will happen is the Clarkson etc series on Amazon will be just what they did on Top Gear - it will be a success and after a series BBC will buy the format with the presenters back.
