Matchplay: I hate High Handicappers

Just played my first round knockout match tonight against a 23 handicapper.

I played to 5 and.....

Well if the ending was that you lost and did not like it then tough sh...e

If you cannot handle it do not enter the ko's

If you won well done and good luck in the next round.

I played last night giving away 18 shots and hosed it.

Ironically playing for steady pars rather than matchplay agressive approach and was 1 under par gross for the front 9!

Out of sight by then, unsurprising given that was comfortably my best 9 holes i can remember!!

... won 1 hole.

Absolutely stonking game. I'm shredded now. He played out of his skin and I matched him somehow.

Great fun, a real nice fella and really pleased that we both played well and delighted I scraped through by the skin of my teeth. But I wouldn't fancy doing that too often. Very bad for the nerves! :D

Just think - if you had played the same against a 7-handicapper, he might have posted:
"Matchplay - I hate 12-handicappers"

Tell you what, if he played out of his skin, you must of been on fire!! Well done that man.

You see, we're not all bad, us high handicappers. :D

Bet you're enjoying the evening now. :)

Golfmmad.

sorry guys but ive got to agree here. played a guy off 28 last night. he played to a handicap of 15 (Gross 86!!) he scored birdie net eagle on 3 holes. there was nothing i could do but it was so frustating !!

Thank goodness for that. I hope you have an easier game next round.

Fingers firmly crossed. My next opponent took out my Winter League partner so I'm out to avenge him.

I knew I was in for a tough evening when I birdied the first for a half.

Hopefully, I'll make it through the next round and someone can then give me some shots!

I'm also in for a bit of a matchplay hiding as a good round in a medal saw me qualify, with top 16 gross score, for our scratch knockout.

I've got my Winter League partner in the first round who is off 7 and, whilst I reckon I might have a slight chance against him, after him it's nothing but Cat 1 players and I'd be in for a real pasting.

The thing about high h'cappers is that they are quite capable of making pars and even the odd birdie but the reason they are high h'cappers is that they are just as likely to make trebles. It does make playing matchplay against them rather difficult and often results in close matches.

Also, there are two types of high h'capper. Those who have been there for ages and are just happy with what I described above and there are those who are rapidly improving and their game is better than their h'cap through no fault of their own. There are a few at our place who fall into this category and I wouldn't fancy playing them in a match.
