Not sure what to do here!!

Just played the first round of the matchplay championship and arrived at the club just in time to tee off, so did not get chance to check opponents h/c before playing. Taking his word for his h/c I ended up losing on the 18th! Just before leaving I checked the h/c and it was inactive!!!!!

Do I let it go andd just accept defeat or
do I report it to the organisers and try and claim the match or is that not in the sprit of the game??

You need to speak to the match secretary or handicap secretary as soon as possible before the result of the match is posted. I would be checking for sure if his h/c was inactive and if so I would claim the match and give him a bollocking for entering a comp with an inactive h/c.

I would probably let it go now that you played and lost, you will look a sore loser (even though you'e not)

If it was me I would also mention it to his next opponent out of courtesy before they play. If its true that its inactive then he would have to forfeit the next round if thats what your rules say.

Its possible its inactive and he doesn't even know it btw.

Surely having an inactive comp is just making life hard for themselves. Wouldn't it be better making sure these guys get the qualifiers in. Over 12 months it isn't that hard to get enough cards in

I think he's at it, (not you your opponent) everyone checks there handicap. If you know the guy well maybe not but if a stranger go for it because it's his responsibility to know that.

Totally disagree - he must have known he was inactive.
