I like to wear the designer clobber but that doesnt mean I'll spend £75 on a pair of trousers. Most I've spent is £49 for a pair of oakleys. How I look at is I'm on the course for 4 1/2 hours at the weekend I want to wear something I feel comfortable in. If that means I wear a £10 shirt or a £35 shirt it doesnt matter but the comfort factor does. With that in mind the more expensive gear usually fits better.

More interested in the cut than label. I hate billowy polo shirts and flappy chinos, so look for narrower fitting gear. Sometimes that means paying a bit more, but I am a feel good play good mindset.
 
I’ve got a bit of a mixture, though tbh not much GG stuff and what I do have (Jacket given to me by a mate as it was too big for him and a jumper that was in the sale for £20) didn’t cost much if anything.

If you are playing a fair bit you need a fair few clothes. When I started I just had cheap stuff, Dunlop, Primark, Asda and over the last few years that’s gradually gone in favour of better quality stuff. Still mostly have M&S trousers, just very comfy.

I have good stuff that I would wear in good weather at opens of forum meets and everyday stuff like M+S, Primark, Asda just for bounce games or if I’m just going for a few holes on my own.

In saying that there is nothing wrong with looking the part and if you have the cash to spend on GG stuff or whatever you like it’s up to you, but you would run the risk of looking like ATGNI!

Played behind a guy last Sunday, head to toe in Oscar Jacobson, TM tour bag and latest clubs. Had a really long pre shot routine, topped it off the first tee in front of 20 people, he finally made the first green in about 6 shots.

Golf brands everytime. These garments are designed for golf in the cut and function. Matalan or who evers thermals will have you sweating like a beast and needing to wring the gusset at half time.

If you shop wisely you can kit yourself out in not a lot of money.

Must say its Ralph Lauren, all down the line for me. But I only buy in the sales. A big department store near us, has a 50% off sale at Chrismas. So I stock up on what ever I can get.

My reasons for buying is they fit me like a glove, plus I have polo shirt in my wardrobe that are over 10yrs old, and still look like new. If I had bought cheapo I would most likely had 20-30 shirts in that time.

So in the long run for me it is cheaper to buy good stuff rather than tat.

I’ve heard all the golfing fashionistas excuses for their clothing snobbery before; quality and you get what you pay for, all nonsense! It doesn’t wash with me.

My family sometimes buy me expensive golf clothing at Christmas etc:cool:, but if I’m buying for myself its Matalan or the likes. I think I’d feel a bit prat as a high handicapper, dressed to the nines in all the fancy show off designer gear, on the first tee and duffing the ball into the pond 30 yards in front of me. :o

You can get away with that in a Matalan shirt

Seriously; when it comes to water proofs or shoes I will pay as much as I can afford, but the rest, waste of money

I can't play like a Pro but I can look like a Pro, it's the only way I'm likely to impress anyone at the course at my current stage, so I'm going with that! But I won't overspend on the likes of GG etc.

My only argument against would be with waterproofs. I think I could justify a real decent set of waterproofs with lifetime guarantee. Rather than paying way less for something that will probably fall apart with the first sign of a drizzle.

A waste of money in your opinion.

Theres nothing snobby in me but Ill look smart and might stand out amongst the chino brigade but thats me.

The course would look ever so boring if we all wore Matalan gear or whatever else the wife buys you.

A bit of a mix and match for me. For value, comfort, practability and style I don't think you can go wrong with a lot of the Greg Norman range. Incidentally Bob, I own said GG compression suit although it was a freebie from GG for selling me two crap waterproof jackets which were as waterproof as a paper bag.

Shame his sizes are huge as his materials are gr8. Or maybe I need to pile the beef on lol

Why do you have to be a lower handicapper to wear designer threads? Also you don't have to wear top end gear if you're really low.

Wear what you want to spend you're money on. If someone laughs at me cos I'm dressed in designer gear and I top it off the first then that's fine, I'll just think at least I don't look like a tramp when I'm doing it.
There is no way that matalan gear or primark will fit as well as more expensive stuff, I don't care who wears it!

The way I think about is, what's the point of wearing a Hugo Boss polo, when one trudge in the woods to find your ball could reck it.

Trousers, never really gone round looking at blokes arses to see what make they wear, but everyone to their own. And I certainly dont check out their crutch area to see what belt they are wearing.

Think as long as you've got a good set of waterproofs and a pair of shoes that dont leak, who cares what you wear.

I wear the same gear day in day out. Wether on the course or off[(not the shoes or waterproofs though) mind you will wear the waterproofs for dog walking]. So why not wear the best. Most of the cheap stuff one wash and it only fit to wash the floor with.

Matalan, Primark and stealing clothes from a tramp............all the same thing. If you think that clobber looks good, your mirror needs changing.
