Marking threads as read

Is it possible to 'opt out' of the 'feature' that decides I'm not active any more and marks everything as read for me?I like the ability to jump to the first post I haven't seen, but if I can't catch up on everything that's new since I last logged on in one sitting I lose that option.

As far as I am aware no, it isn't possible. It is a software setup.

I think (although more than likely wrong!) that it was mentioned as something to do with the server as well. As we share with others it isn't possible without taking to much away from other ipc sites.
