question that arose today that sparked debate in our group and couldnt see anything 100% in the rule book.t

we have posts in the grounds marking 150, hazards etc that are deemed as moveable obstructions as they are in plastic tubes and can be lifter out.

all in agreement that your entitled to relief if it interfers with swing or stance, but was debated if you can remove these if they are on you line of play - ie 3 yards infront so no stance/swing problem but directly in line of intended shot.

can you lift these out or not, i always thought it was tough luck and play as it lies same as for an immovable obstruction. anyone know the exact rule that clarifies this?

thanks all.

you can move (remove) them

edit - explanation

if you look at 24-1, which covers movable obstructions, it makes no reference to interference - it simply says you can move them.

with immovable obstructions you have the concept of interference ie if it doesn't interfere as defined in the rules then you do not have any relief options.

What about line of sight Duncan?

line of sight doesn't constitute interference for an Immovable Obstruction, so there wouldn't be relief from an IO in such a situation.

(let's not bring TIOs into the discussion as you are unlikely to find any in a club game)
