ManU, Beckham and Madrid

Great result for ManU tonight, sad to see how ineffective Ronaldinho is these days compared to how he used to be. Beckham actually looked decent on the right wing for the short spell he was on.

Delighted to see Real Madrid got knocked out too, bunch of overaid hairdressers. ;) Especially as the final is at the Bernabeau in May.

That basically leaves Barcelona as the only real hurdle to another English team winning the CL doesn't it?

Rest of Europe must be sick of the strength of the premiership, well the top 4 or 5 teams anyway.

Wonder how guys like Flamini feel as I'm sure he saw a move to AC Milan from Arsenal as a step up but it doesn't look like a step up to me.

I completely agree with everything youve said apart from the Barcalona bit. They were top of La Liga by a good few points and now Real are top and their not winning every game. Yeah their a good team but this year im thinking itll be an all english final which in my opinion is a good thing.

I actually think Ronaldinho was AC Milans best player in the first leg.

Unless of course you're saying how ineffectual he is in the second leg compared to the first leg ;) x

All the top players that have moved to different countries have moved for the money. They dont play for the club they play for the money and that is the modern game of football these days. I try and not watch it as theyll fall over a blade of grass and start crying, that must help their dignity :)

I thought United were decent tonight but Milan were poor. You can't compete in Europe when your wide players refuse to work back and support the back four. Rooney looks awesome at the moment and it was good to see Beckham show a few touches of quality. Another all English final would be great but I reckon UEFA will find a way to contrive it so it won't happen (odds on two English sides meeting in the 1/4 final)

I think decent is a little harsh. They totally out-played a team with some world-class players.

I think you mean to say finished world class players, the first leg AC put on a sub at full back he's 38 what does that say for there youth policy, they were great players granted but now there playing out time which is sad to see.

Agree that there are a few "older" players, but the likes of Ronaldinho & Pirlo are still cracking players, and I think that Huntelaar is pretty useful too (admit that he was poor tonight).

Wasn't saying there poor would still pay to see Ronaldinho play just for the tricks ,Huntelaar has gone back the way in my opinion the first time i saw him he was lethal ,maybe lacking confidence.

Looking at the stats, it seems Milan had more possession than ManU, nearly mtched them on shots and the passing success was much better. They just couldn't do anything with it all.
Interestly, there were only 27 tackles made, 18 by ManU and 9 by Milan and only 19 of them successful.

Homer, AC were poor because of the early goal. They knew that scoring 2 against united at old trafford whilst being already one down was a humungous task and tbh gave up after 20 mins. The AC team weren't young and unexperienced so they knew what united were capable of and realised that with Vidic and Ferdinand at the back (who played exceptionally and are the best 2 centre backs in the world)the task was going to be near impossible.

Rooney was the main man again and i think he should surpass Ronaldo's 42 goals for the season but still think ronaldo's achievement was and still will be better as he was playing as a midfielder and scored some fabulous goals.

Finally, I watched some of the RM v LY game and RM dominated. Both goals were good and real should have had a couple. Honestly though Lyon going through is a great result for english teams as many have beaten them before - am i not correct in saying that it was united who beat them in the group stages?

I don't think Utd were ever going to lose the tie after their result in Italy. Rooney's goal killed the tie.

I actually think that Vidic is a shadow of the player he was before the Torres nightmare last season.

I don't think any of the English teams would relish playing Lyon but they are beatable. Real probably thought that all they had to do was turn up.
Shows the arrogance of the club. Already the Spanish press are reading the last rites for Pelegrini. I seem to remember it was the club president that did all the buying. As a manager, of course he isn't going to say he doesn't "want" all these world class players but so many ego's are hard to massage and I personally don't think they will succeed with some grafters in there. Barca for the Spanish title. Utd or Chelsea for the CL

Forget all the facts about possession and fouls etc its what you do with the ball when youve got it,milan didnt even come to play, they didnt play for themselves, manager,or club, they were totally clueless, after fifteen minutes i was thinking how many utd would score as it was wide open.As for Beckham you could see the quality,i admit hes lost a lot of pace but he can cross a ball like no other player and he should definately go to the world cup as a quality sub i cant see him playing from the start.

I think Lyon might be in with a chance. Milan players are far too old to cope with the tempo of the EPL when they are not in control of a game, that said I think most Italian teams would have struggled.
