I realise this is a long shot.... Anyone ever signed up for/played in the man v fat football tournament? Or know anyone who has?

I've not but i play 6 a side competitive football with a local organisation very similar to MvF. We're in teams and we have a weekly weight loss leauge too

I'd not played for 20yrs but i'm loving it, its a well run league and teams are all a similar standard.

Where abouts are you?

Hastings - down on the east sussex coast. I think I'm going to go along tonight and see what its all about.

Get down there Adam, i'm sure you'll love it.

Obviously the idea is to get overweight people exercising and playing football in an enviroment to their standard/level fitness.

But its not just for fatties 😀

I play in a six aside league and often find the larger players are so much fitter than my relatively skinny self. It makes me sad. :(

*puts hand up*

I play in it, and love it. Lost about 2 stone since the start of year.

It's not really a tournament, leagues last about 12 weeks. Weigh in at the start of the match, if you've lost weight you earn 0.5 goal for your team, play the match and use the pitch score and the weight score to get the overall result. Points awarded based on the total result. If you lose 3 weeks in a row, it's a hattrick, so you get a goal for that week's match. Lose 5% it's another and the same for when you lose 10%.

The standard is pretty decent considering there's some absolute units there, but it's usually friendly, has a referee and you'll be placed in a squad of about 10.

I started because I wanted to play competitive football again, without getting skinned by 18 year olds and to lose some weight.

Ask any questions you like mate.

I've got a referral code if you'd like to earn me a fiver as well ;)

I'm going to take a look tonight, already been in contact with the fella who runs it so I'm keen.

A question I have is around the kit..... do you buy a coloured top dependent on the team you're assigned to or do you wear anything and then just a bib on top?

The place looks like a 3g/astro turf pitch, so I assume normal astro trainers would do the trick rather than moulded boots.

Also....it seems the games are "only" 30 minutes, so if my game is at 8:30 or 9 or 9:30 I assume you dont turn up until then?

Yeah, same colour top as the rest of the team. Doesn't have to be the exact same one, any will do. Some teams buy a matching strip, my team hasn't bothered.

Astro trainers are fine but moulds are good too. I bought moulds after I knew I was definitely staying.

You'll see what time your kick off is on the website page for your league. Can turn up to watch the other games if you like, at least 15mins before kick off to get weighed and warmed up.

It's rolling subs so the 30 mins flies by.

Some pitches categorically don’t allow moulded studs and won’t let you play with them. Mine for example only allows Astro trainers.

I went and had a look last night and it looked good, a standard I could easily fit into and with a lot of normal blokes... It's got potential.

So let me know the referral code as I'll sign up online 👍
