Man Down

I can't pinpoint it at the moment, I'm a bit numb :smirk:

I was OK bending it and even twisting or swinging my right arm but as soon as I attempt to fully extend it like a stretching movement with the palm of my hand upright to push and lock the arm out, if you know what I mean, its a big....no no!

I only really felt the pain today at the point when my wrist hinged at the top of the back swing, it was really noticeable then.

I regret not taking Ibuprofen since Monday now when I woke up to it but I thought it was just an ache and rested it until today

I should be able to pinpoint it more in the morning as the tablets will be worn off overnight so I'll get back to you then. I'm hoping its only a minor bought of tendonitis :mmm:

Let me know in the morning then.. Mine is still constantly sore now nearly 12 months after the original "injury". It's alright when I'm moving it or bending the arm, but if I put any pressure on the joint, such as pressing down on the palm when the arm is still at a 90 degree angle, then the pain can be interesting. Hopefully, yours is just a minor muscle pull and you'll be back on the course in no time..

If you're open to "different" ideas I'd recommend finding a Bowen/Emmett therapist. Not seen one for golfers elbow but neck/shoulder problems and I've had better results in 3 sessions than I did with months of physio/osteopathy. HID, one of the biggest sceptics around is also going now.

I don't think its anything on the scale of your injury and I don't want to scare myself thinking it might be, I'll speak to you in the morning

Depending on how it transpires, I'll be open to anything if it gets me back on the course quicker

Doesn't quite sound typical of TE to me. TE doesn't normally start from nothing and 'nag'. It normally hurts during and just after the exercise and improves with rest.

The 'electric shock' would normally indicate a nerve, whereas TE and GE are tendon issues (inflammation/tenderness).

Go see your Pro is the answer. The Pro, in this case, being one with a stethoscope

But anti-inflamms will certainly help.

I agree, it doesn't sound like tennis elbow to me either. TE is restricted to a very small area where a ligament is attached to the bone. It is usually caused by a repetitive gripping action (no jokes lads!!), over a long period, like using a power washer for 2 or 3 hours. It is the gripping action of squeezing the gun-type mechanism which creates the problem. I've had it in both elbows, and after ibuprofen gel, massage, and acupuncture, the only thing that cured it was cortisone injections - one elbow needed 3, the other just one.

Go see the quack.

After a binge day on the Ibuprofen yesterday I can't feel the initial aching any more that I've felt nearly every morning this week, however, when using my mouse first thing I had a little twinge and it was on the outside of the elbow at the top as you look down the arm with my hand faced down normally. It doesn't feel anywhere near as tender as yesterday when I stretch the arm with my palm faced up, mind you, if I jump up and down I sound like a smarty tube with the amount of pills I popped yesterday :smirk:

Full days rest today with some more Ibuprofen which is so frustrating with clear blue skies and blazing sun bearing down on my back garden

it does sound a little like tennis elbow if it hurts when gripping/moving a mouse and is on the outside. Deffo get it checked out Robin, I had it and spent over 18 months before eventually having surgery. I got to the point where even picking up a coffee cup was agony!

It started as shooting pains and a niggle, I just thought I had tweaked something and it just gradually got worse due to my job involving drilling, hammering and using a screwdriver.... its an RSI type injury.

Hopefully its just a one off injury and settles down but either way I would still get it checked out asap.

If you were Tiger or Rory all of the comments would be questioning how bad your injury actually was and whether you would have walked off if you had not just hit a few bad shots and were in contention.

R.I.C.E and anti inflammatory drugs as mentioned just be careful with ibruprofen as not good for kidneys and can rot the stomach so make sure they are taken with food and plenty of water.

Yep, may be TE. With your arm outstretched, turn your arm inwards. As you look down at the elbow indentation, press around the fleshy bit at the top of the indentation (the nearest bit as you look at it). That's where the ligament is attached to the bone. If it hurts, it's gonna be TE. Rest, ibuprofen gel massage, and don't do anything that requires a gripping type action. Worth laying off golf for a few weeks until it hopefully settles down.

Try holding out straight the affected arm with a book in your hand,(palm side down), then rotating it (book in the hand), 180 degrees. If this gives you pain in forearm area and elbow, then Tendonitis is more than likely the problem.

Tendonitis is a nightmare. Had it in my thumb earlier in the year. 7 weeks off. Luckily most of it was during the bad weather.

Sometimes when I prod around I get a twinge, but then nothing, it isn't aching anywhere near as bad as in the week, but then I was only resting and taking nothing! I get a little "pulse" twinge in that area at times.

A few weeks, I'll go mad

Been told this earlier on Twitter so I'm scoffing and drinking well whilst taking them.

Hmm, did that and no pain or twinges, but then the Ibuprofen has probably kicked in, earlier in the week I had to put my mug down as it felt weak, but not had that for a couple of days.

Robin does it twinge when gripping and lifting using the wrist/elbow? I found lifting from the shoulder per se not bad (loading washing machine, carrying shopping etc), it was the smaller activities like opening a can of beer and drinking it... not good I tell thee :)
