Just had to come off the course after only 4 holes :(

I got my 1st drive away, of sorts, and even got my 6 iron then to the front of the green, chipped on and duly 3-putted  walked off to the 2nd tee feeling my arm aching already and went with a 4 iron and my elbow/arm felt so restricted in the back swing, as I struck the ball it felt like an electric shock, I was looking down the fairway with a grimaced look on my face on the follow through only to hear a loud knock from the woods to my right  You normally have to hit a very special shank to get in their, not something I experience thankfully, so I'm not sure what my shot was but my ball has gone to that greener part of golf balls heaven :(

I've had an aching niggle with my right arm/elbow since Monday morning, I thought I had simply lay on it funny in the night but it hung around for a few days and I hadn't played until today as I've got a busy long weekend and now I can't swing!

Had to pull out of the AM AM I was supposed to play in at Longcliffe (Loughborough) tomorrow already but I've got a finals day in my Super 16's on Saturday and a board comp on Sunday :mmm:

Not a happy bunny :(

probably age catching up on you Robin... ;)

Joking aside, the feeling you describe sounds similar to when i did my knee in, felt like i had been shot in the back of the knee.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, seriously dont push the comeback too quick!!!

I had a bit of tendonitis a couple of months ago, not sure if this is what you have, but if it is, ibuprofen is excellent. It doesn’t just treat the symptoms but also the cause. I combined with a bit of ice in the evening and it was sorted in a matter of a day or two. Obviously, if you’re not sure what the problem is then seek appropriate medical attention…

Tennis Elbow has been mentioned and after reading up on it, I'm not impressed with the potential recovery time!

Why now and why me

tennis elbow is a bugger robin, sounds like it could be though. the quacks will be next to useless. If i were you, i would be icing regularly, get a support on it, get some nurofen or ibuprofen gel, and rest it as much as possible.

R- Rest
I - Ice
C - Compression
E - Elevation. you know that all anyway, but good luck!

Got a bit of TE myself at the moment
Fortunately not too bad and it doesn't seem to affect my golf.
There's degrees of TE and it sounds like you have a larger dose than me.
Hope it clears up soon.

Everyone on the forum knows that you play far too much golf - and there's the age thing that someone else mentioned.

Actually I don't!

A 10 hole roll-up on a Tuesday and or Thursday, a Friday roll-up and then either a Saturday or Sunday match. For someone who's retired I don't see the equivalent (maximum) of 56 holes a week as excessive! OK in the summer that can extend to 72 holes but since December I reckon I've only averaged about 2 full rounds per week!

I see the same seniors every day at my club when I drop in just for a drink, do they play too much also, is there such a thing as "too much", maybe you can enlighten us all?

I didn't realise that 54 was deemed as old age and I should be restricting what I enjoy doing :(

and....I don't see the 2 x 10 hole sweeps any different to someone going to the range twice a week after work, just because I have the day free what's the difference, Oh I'll tell you what it is, I will only hit half as many balls in my 10 hole sweep than someone with a 100 bucket, hmm, what's more beneficial?

50 is the new 30 Fish, anyway as the saying goes, you're only as old as the woman you feel :)

And using your range analogy come the weekend I'll have played the equivalent of 4 or 5 rounds depending how good I'm swinging.

My good lady is 10 years younger than me, so I'll take that :smirk:

Anyway, your not supposed to be discussing this, Rosecott is acting and speaking on behalf of the whole forum as "everyone on the forum knows that I play far too much golf"

Well now, maybe it's just the impression I get. When you were doing all the organising for the West Midlands KofK, it seemed as if you were down to play every other day - I do regret that I never did get to play with you on your patch. You shouldn't be so sensitive about your age - you'll soon get used to it.

Doesn't quite sound typical of TE to me. TE doesn't normally start from nothing and 'nag'. It normally hurts during and just after the exercise and improves with rest.

The 'electric shock' would normally indicate a nerve, whereas TE and GE are tendon issues (inflammation/tenderness).

Go see your Pro is the answer. The Pro, in this case, being one with a stethoscope!

But anti-inflamms will certainly help.

Everything I've read basically says not to bother your GP as its rest and the likes of Ibuprofen is all that is required unless it gets worse or other symptoms transpire. Just on my 2nd dose and with now a full days rest tomorrow with more tablets and the use of a ThermaCare Heat Wrap, I'll hopefully be OK for the weekend.

Ok Robin.. The expert is in the house...;)

Firstly, where is the pain exactly? Is it on the inside or the outside of the elbow as you look down on it? If it is on the inside of the elbow, right at the point where the muscle meets the elbow joint, then it's "Golfers Elbow". If it's on the outside, then it's "Tennis elbow".
Now, if it's "Golfers Elbow", then don't even think about playing through the pain.. You remember playing with me at Preston GC don't you? That feeling of being shot as you make contact with the ball is exactly what I had. As Rooter said above, R I C E is your friend. Ibuprofen will reduce the swelling as well. There are also several stretching exercises that will help in the long run. PM me and I'll go through a couple (or get my number and ring me.)

Go to the Doctors and arrange some Physio. Don't get the injection unless nothing else has worked. The injection will merely mask the underlying cause of the injury and may cause more damage in the long run..

Oh, and be prepared for some time out.. If it is GE, then rest is the only real cure.. Be sensible and you won't spend all season out like I did..

One here suffers from tendonitis too.Probably due to age (47), golf swing (poorish), and to much gym over the years...Treatment wise i manage to keep it in check with Volterol,..it just niggles until it flares up proper..Bought a Trion Z wristband, but not felt need to use it yet, however, with new season upon us,it will be just a matter of time

I can't pinpoint it at the moment, I'm a bit numb :smirk:

I was OK bending it and even twisting or swinging my right arm but as soon as I attempt to fully extend it like a stretching movement with the palm of my hand upright to push and lock the arm out, if you know what I mean, its a big....no no!

I only really felt the pain today at the point when my wrist hinged at the top of the back swing, it was really noticeable then.

I regret not taking Ibuprofen since Monday now when I woke up to it but I thought it was just an ache and rested it until today

I should be able to pinpoint it more in the morning as the tablets will be worn off overnight so I'll get back to you then. I'm hoping its only a minor bought of tendonitis :mmm:
