Hi Guys,

Just got in the car and the missus has spilt the beans about my Birthday next month...

Shes taking me to the MacDonald Portal Golf hotel in Cheshire and I am playing all 3 courses... I expected maybe a night away somewhere with a round of golf but its pretty much a fill your boots golf weekend away.

I was wondering if anyone has played the Championship and Premier Courses and could offer opinions or details? The third course is only a par 3 by the look of it but will be a fun warm up before playing one of the big ones.

They look like long courses but there isn't too much info online - normally the case for most hotel courses I find...

Anyway any info would be good, cheers

It's a pretty good set up Davey. Ive only played the Championship course, it's forgiving off the tee as you'd expect with a resort course, with big undulating greens.Quite a bit of elevation change and variety of holes. I believe though that the premier course is the better of the two.

Definately get a buggy, it seems to be the done thing there, if you don't you'll have the groups behind up your backside all the way round. I'm not sure on prices but I don't think it's much extra.

The hotel seems quite nice, a bit contemporary as you'd expect with a new hotel. It's situated next to the Championship course.
Also have a trip down the road into Tarpoley, good pubs and restuarants..
Im sure you'll enjoy it:thup:

Premier is the better course and a better test of golf, the championship is very forgiving as already said but its enjoyable enough.

I forgot to add that the par 3 course is enjoyable and very good for sharpening your skills.

Cheers guys, I am playing the Premier course on the second day after playing the par 3 so glad its now in that order as I assumed the championship would be better.

Championship is probably in better condition than Premier, but it's a bombers course hit it big (direction is pretty irrelevant) you'll score well! Premier (as has been said) is the better/more interesting course for me.

Premier has people members, Championship has corporate members - I let you decide what that means!

Both courses have stunning views over Cheshire and have a walk up to Beeston Castle (if the weathers good) for a full 360 view for miles around!
