Undoubtedly, world no. 1 is a hell of an achievement. And no doubt whoever is at the time is very pleased to be there. But. I wonder where the pro's emphasis is. Be no. 1 or win a major. Ideally both of course, but which is the focus?

What would you rather be. A major winner or world no. 1 for a short time?

Back to Luke. I think I raised the question a couple of years ago, about journeyman or real contender. And at the time, despite being a bit of a fan, I went for the former. Not because of his golf, but because of the apparent lack of that killer instinct that was required. Looking at it now, I wonder just how much control Tiger had over all the other players self belief systems. Since Tigers fall, a lot of Pros seem to see the top spot as something that is possible.

I hope Luke does get it. But I'd like to see him with a major.

Hopefully he will acheive both shortley

You don't get to number 1 by playing badly. Ok you don't have to be winning all the time but it shows that you're playing well. And if you're playing well then you're going to give yourself chances of winning - be it the Uzbekistan Open or The Open!!
I'm sure, sooner or later, Lee and/or Luke will take one of those chances and win a big one.

6 under after 12 holes in round three?

Oh that'll be Westwood.

'nuff said

:p

Yep Lee's doing the business showing Bangladesh's and Thailands finest how it's done. He's a player for the big occasion all right.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm? ;)

Let's just say Westwood winning in Malaysia is the equivalent of Ken Clean Air systems win over a 12 year school girl. For those not old enough to know:

Westwood has the intellegence to go for the easy points.

If it gets him back to No. 1 then I'm sure they'll make a note of that alongside his name in the rankings.

Reminds me of a something someone once said; It's not how - it's how many.

:D

I think the note they'll make is "temporary"

And who is going to keep the No 1 slot for longer than 'temporary' ?

Personally I'm happy for Westwood to claim the No 1 slot back - I think he deserves it, and I think it'll be the pinnacle of his career.

I think Luke has the potential to win a major, and I'd prefer him to not quite make it to no 1 until he's fulfilled that criterior first.

Just my opinion.

Westwood is out there getting acclimatised for the Ballantines comp next week. Seems like a good move and it confirms he's a world wide player not just content to sit on his 'arris. You guys just cant wait to bash one of Britains finest sportsmen for actually doing well. I feel sorry for you with your pathetic attitudes towards him. You guys would probs preferred it when he was 400th in the rankings but then again you were probably moaning about him back then too

Why do I have to like him just because he's English ? I don't like him as a golfer and I don't like some of the things he says, all entitled to our opinion

Craphacker, I think Luke has the potential to hang on to it for a bit if he can get there. He doesn't seem to have any obvious weeknesses in his game at the moment and is consistently placing well against good fields
