The LPGA are only intersted in one thing here $$$$$$$$$. It's possible that the sponsors may not back the events in future if they don't get their money's worth! So kneejerk reaction time, lets make everyone (pros) who plays in the pro-am speak acceptable English.

Has anyone one here ever heard any American speak acceptable English?

I think there could be adverse repercussions from Asian sponsors such as Honma, Yonex, Mizuno, Toyota and a few others added to the sponsors from America who sponsor the asian players too (Nike, TM, Callaway).

I would love to see a similar rule applied to the BBC.
Can you imagine all these celebrity presenters going to school to improve their grammar, diction and vocabulary?

Off the chart for stupidity and what an insult.

Sportis about transcending boundaries, not putting up obstacles. What next? You have to wear pink? You have to use Titleist balls? You have to let Americans/Britons win...oh hang on, that last one is the reason, isn't it?

Shameful.

Sour grapes methinks!

Let's face it, the last LPGA I saw on tv saw the Koreans whupping the Yanks big style. Looks like they're set for possibly total domination of the sport along with Japanese and Chinese ladies.

A wake up call for the western ladies, play better or you'll win nowt!

Direct quote from the Golf.com link:

Hilary Lunke, president of the Player Executive Committee, said as much in the Golfweek story. "The bottom line is, we don't have a job if we don't entertain. In my mind, that's as big a part of the job as shooting under par."

she just wants hookers?

Hang on, David beckham, Gary lineker, thierry henry, David Ginola etc When they moved from their home country to play abroad all learned the foreign language, lineker especially learned spanish AND japanese.
These people are making money from their living in the USA, they should at least be able to say thankyou in the native language.
I can speak a little french and spanish so when we went to spain for holiday, I was able to get by ordering food etc, its simply good manners. Noone is asking them to speak english everywhere nor deny them their own native language.
What happens if the golfer needs a ruling, do they have to depend on their caddy translating for them?
Sorry guys, I think the PRO-AM excuse is just that, however im sure its quite difficult arranging details with the players if communications are hampered.

I'm not knockingthe principle re interviews etc but can't help thinking it wouldn't have even cropped up had the koreans not been so dominant. Sour grapes I say.

Its never happened before because it was never a problem before. The world is getting smaller and smaller it is inevitable that foreigners from countries where english is only spoken by a handful of people willhead off to make their fortunes.

Is a stupid and utterly discriminatory rule and appears designed to ensure only americas win on the LPGA tour.

The European Ladies Tour should issue an invite to all the nnon english speaking golfers on the LPGA tour to play in europe no restrictions on language.

If the players are living in America full time they will eventually need to learn english to enable them live in america.
They should not be forced to learn english just to play golf.

Maybe the Koreans and Japanese will retaliate and only allow native speakers play in their tournaments--then again the Japanese and Koreans are not stupid and vindictive.

A triumph for common sense - incidently that is the worst name for it coz its anything but common!!

Saw in the news somewhere that the LPGA have backed down and won't be bringing this in.

Probably realised they'd get their butts sued all the way home......

Yanks eh????

Someone should have a word with the FA then. Fabio got asked a question by a foreign journalist on Friday, her English was very poor, Fabio seemed to know her (Spanish I think) and he said Spanish was fine so that she could get her question over - at this point whoever was beside Capello (out of shot) said the question has to be in English for the broadcaster, we then had to nedure an unintelligible question in English, no-one having any idea what she was asking.
