Lowest Gross Prize

No reward for lowest gross...just an acknowledgement in the results on HDID that no-one looks at!

We don't have a prize for best gross in each medal but the players who do shoot best gross in each monthly medal qualify for "The Scratch Salver" the following year.

It does give the lower handicaps something to aim for in each medal and certainly helps focus the mind if, come the last three months of the year, you haven't qualified.

The Scratch Silver itself is 18 holes medal...best gross wins. This and the Club Championships are the only gross score comps we play.

Awesome!

I know lowest gross is acknowledged on the results sheets but given that it has no relevance to me, I've never noticed if there is a prize. (Come to think of it, lowest nett never has any relevance to me either.)

Not in the normally fortnightly comps, although I'm sure any exceptional gross score would (& should) be recognised when prizes dished out, but other than that not sure why you would if its a handicap comp i.e a 3 handicapper shoots a couple of shots shy of their handicap and happens to be lowest gross

They've had a decent-to-good day but hardly noteworthy by their own standards

Some have some haven't .
One club did but if you wanted to enter the scratch comp, you had to pay double the entry fee.
Another club didn't have any prize so despite shooting -2 gross off 3 and therefor played the best golf out of 125 entrants and getting my name on the results sheet I came nowhere net so won nothing. It was the last medal I played there

To a large extent it should depend on the size of the field.
We are a fairly small club with fairly small fields, especially midweek.
I've been lowest gross many times but then the next lowest handicap to me is often 5-6 shots higher so I'd expect to be lowest - mostly anyway..
With 50+ in the field I think there's more than enough room for some recognition for the lowest gross score, even if its just a sleeve of balls.

You can't not IMO. We have A B and C sections at our club for the majors (A and B for standard medals). Each section has a gross and nett winner. Works well in my eyes as if you are in the A section (0-10) then you have an opportunity to win. Low guys go for the scratch and the higher guys go for the handicap. This is replicated in each section. Means that if you are playing off 9 it gives you a chance without the higher handicaps making it very difficult and vice versa a 12 handicap has a shot at scratch without the low guys.

The winner of the lowest gross gets announced at the weekly presentation and they get a ball, a Srixon soft feel, which no one who wins the lowest gross plays with!
