Lost Yards...

Interesting about the G20. I took up the game again last year after a long lay off and bought myself a Ping G15 driver. Absolutely loved it, felt really nice and even severely off-centre hits went a reasonable distance. However, a couple of months ago I won a Callaway Razr Hawk driver. Took it straight on the course and no contest. The Callaway was at least 15 yards longer, straighter and with a better trajectory. The Ping still feels a nicer club to use, the Callaway feeling a bit dead at impact but that's a small price to pay if I am to join the exclusive GM forum 300 yard club. Just another 60 yards to find.

I've lost about 50 yards off my drives in the last few months, on sunday on frozen fairway was only getting 200 yards carry no run at all.

Driving has been the best part of my game for a while and though i'm not long could consistantly driver 250 to 275 and still be in the middle of said fairway.

Went though a swing change at the end of the summer which resulted in sorting out the shanks and gen some spin. Its now gone the other way. went on a trackman today to try some stiffer shafts but it didn't make any difference.

clubhead speed 100, launch angle 19deg , spin 4000 was the lowest with xflex proforce axis, the voodoo was over 7000:(

That can't be right spin rates for a driver? 7000 rpm is too high for a 6i! Driver rates should be 2000-3000....

Imurg. For the 2 guys I know it is so obvious they have lost distance that the other guys in our Saturday group noticed and commented on it.

I hit the G20 the exact same as my old G15 and hit my Cleveland 17* the exact same distance as them both. That's why I changed to the Nike SQ

Unfort that what they were, I'm well aware they should only be 3000 or less which is what it was when i was fitted for my driver over a year and a half ago:(

That's a crazy increase patricks.

Do you feel you're swinging differently? Sounds like you're hitting down or moved the ball back in your stance so unintentionally hitting down on it? Otherwise they are crazy numbers, albeit you might get some nice backspin on driveable par 4's :)

I was thinking same, my 1st thought was gotta be hitting down with that type of backspin
Out of curiosity, what did the machine give out as Distance.......??

A normal 100mph swing should be around 250-260.....???

Well when i was fitted for the mp630 driver it was 3200 rpm, carry 235-240 with total 250 to 275. that was with 101 min clubhead speed.

Now the clubhead speed was slightly up the carry was as low as 170 highest 205 and total distance on that one was only another 3 yards of run.

we tried all sorts of shafts even a Javlin thingy that was megga stiff, the voodoo shaft had the least carry

the ball is just dropping like a stone.

My pro is away till mid feb so can't get him to look at things till then:(

Wow.......feel for you man
Nice 101mph SS - good carry....... to whats happening now
Fingers crossed your Pro sees something real simple in your swing and gets you back on plane......

I think i'm going to go and by a G20 with a reg shaft and i should be able to get up to 325 yards;)

99% sure it's not the club or shaft. I'd wager you are hitting down on the ball with a steep AoA. Staying behind the ball (not S&T ;) ) will assist. Or the ball position is too near the middle of your stance....If you can post a vid of swing front and down-the-line, I'm sure the experts can give some pointers.
