Lost Yards...

You shouldn't have got rid of the D2 Ian.

I've just been down the range for the first outing with mine and I was carrying it about 270**

**This is complete fabrication :D

Was having a real Weston with my previous driver, Fragger had one and I used it and things went straight so I bought one...

OK JohnO but I'm using my 4 wood!

Don't tempt me Neil.....

Agreed PJ. But if I'm only hitting it as far as my 4 wood then there's not much point in having it.

The thing Is I'm not hitting it badly, I'm getting reasonable results so a bit of an observation but a bit of a complaint too. I've always - well for the last 5 years - thought I should get more distance from my driver than I do but finding the middle most of the time can't really be argued with.
Now and again I really get hold of one and it's into the next County but on average I'm shorter with the driver when compared to my 4 wood which ain't right.

And it's been a good read, this thread, Thanks Guys....

How is it behaving on the course though. Do you feel it is losing too much distance there or would you sacrifice the distance for the accuracy

You better have it tamed and going at least 300 on Saturday. My game has hit a bit of a slump. Nothing new in that but I'm trying to remain positive that I've been finding ways to get it round despite not playing wel over the last few weeks and so a bad range session doesn't mean I won't come good on the day. Depends if I'm handicapped carrying a single figure golfer.

Firstly let me say that I have personally witnessed Imurg hit his 4 wood the best part of 240 yards and that 225 is not a problem for him, This is a statement of fact and lets have no more silly stuff.

Little Bro, since you got the G20 your handicap has come down from about 9 to 5 almost overnight. The sole reason is that you were putting more drives on the short stuff and less in the bundoo.

Your strength has always been your second shot, it used to HAVE to be a recovery shot, but now that you are mostly on fairway, you are reaching the green in reg more often than not.

So you may have lost 20 yards in length, But look what you have gained in terms of position, I think its a good trade off

You still try to hit it too hard in my opinion.

Now if you find a driver/shaft combo that puts it where the G20 does, but 20 yards further, then go for it, but I reckon that it will be as hard to find as Rocking Horse Manure.

Panic ye not Little Fat Bro, There aint much wrong, so dont be in a hurry to fix it

Fragger The ChillMeister

I can hit my 3 wood 240 in the winter, just double checked on my golfshot and have several marked at 230-242

I cant even hit driver that far at the mo :(

to the op - I would rather hit 220-230 and be on the fairway than 30-40 yard more but not know if its gonna be findable let alone playable :)

I've lost about 50 yards off my drives in the last few months, on sunday on frozen fairway was only getting 200 yards carry no run at all.

Driving has been the best part of my game for a while and though i'm not long could consistantly driver 250 to 275 and still be in the middle of said fairway.

Went though a swing change at the end of the summer which resulted in sorting out the shanks and gen some spin. Its now gone the other way. went on a trackman today to try some stiffer shafts but it didn't make any difference.

clubhead speed 100, launch angle 19deg , spin 4000 was the lowest with xflex proforce axis, the voodoo was over 7000:(

Hey, come on, this is Golf, and we are Golfers
Nobody is meant to be happy with their gear or their game.......not for more than 1 or 2 rounds at a time anyway....:D
Its the sheer fact we will never conquer this great game that keeps us going......well.... that and the fact we leave the wife behind for a few hours, have bit of fun, a drink, and a bit 'craic' or whinge in the bar afterwards
In our group, we dont re-live the good shots in the bar , just take the P**S out of those that 4 putted, duffed, shanked, OB, etc....etc....

Patrick,

I think that's where I really struggle now. Like yourself I used to be a great driver of the golf ball, my Rapture V2 never really ventured off the fairway and I knew it was going to consistently find the short stuff. My driving got worse and worse and in the end it messed my head so much that I was standing on the tee talking myself into that duck hook or that massive block.

If you lose some part of your game that was your "go to" or strength its much much harder to take and recover from. I'm going to take my time and get a feel for what's out there and more importantly inspire confidence at address before I splash the cash on a new dog.

Keep plugging my old highland chum.

moogie, just cos I would be happy with that doesnt mean I can do it :)

bloody game can drive a man (or woman as I guess one should be a tad more pc these days) MAD!!!

Interesting Phil...

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a " I can't hit the ball" moan, it is more of an observation. Everyone - except Steve or Tim - would like more yards, it's finding them without sacrificing the accuracy.

I think I will get myself to a Launch Monitor some time soon to get the figures.
Trouble is I don't want to get the ballspeed/swingspeed up if it means going back to hacking out of the rough..
Being on the fairway, although shorter tha I would like , has a good feeling to it.
But, as I said earlier, if I can put the ball in a similar position with my 4 wood, it negates the point of having 200 quids worth of driver in the bag. Keeping the situation as it is doesn't make a lot of sense.

Another potential problem is that I don't really know anywhere nearby to get fitted. Not too keen on AG/DG, there is a fitter 10 miles away but I don't like the range you hit on - downhill so tricky to see the flight.
Might need to make a trip to the Belfry or similar - either way, this time I'm doing it properly - getting all the figures and picking the best from it.

If you're not gaining anything by having "2 x 4 woods" in your bag, sell the driver and get another wedge.
4 is nowhere near enough ;)

If you can get on a trackman, I'd seriously suggest you try a stiff shaft in something. Maybe something similar to your 4 wood.

I could put a 62 degree in....Mmmmm

Might look for a cheap 2009 Launcher with the stiff Gold shaft - same as the 4w. IT's still a decent driver even though its 3 years old..

Or another option, could be, try and find a matching 3 wood......??......13 deg strong 3 wood.....??.....or 15deg std 3 wood........??
If these were longer than your current 4 wood, then NO harm carrying a 3 & 4 wood
That head shape and shaft may just be YOU.......??
