Ventured to the range today - only becasue it had been blistering down with rain and the course would have resembled a lake.
Anyway, it's the first time I've taken the G20 and had a sustained session with it at the range.
And I've definitely lost yards.
I mentioned this in a thread a while back but now I'm certain.
There was a slight breeze behind. Previously I've been able to carry the ball ( even range balls) into the back fence fairly easily. I've lasered it at 225 yards. I'll even pitch some 4 woods into it.
Well to day I managed to pitch plenty of 4 woods into the fence but try as I might I couldn't get the driver to get one to pitch in the fence even with a real ball.

The G20 may have given me much more consistency and accuracy but it seems to have severely shortened my drives. The flight seemed particularly high but even more penetrating shots didn't fly as far as I'd expect. To be fair I did miss the flight of a couple of drives, looked up and couldn't pick the ball out but good drives that I did see didn't cut the mustard.
On the course I can normally outdrive CVG with my 4 wood. That still happens but the driver doesn't seem to outdrive by much more with the exception of a "Sunday Best".

Pain in the butt really as I thought I had things settled.
But it looks like I'm going to have to get it checked out.

May I direct you to the "for sale" section of the forum!

Chris

As you say though you have gained consistency with it. I had a Nike Driver before my G20 and am much happier with the G20 even though it's not as long, mainly because it's generally straight!

Did you get fitted for the G20 or was it simply swing a few and see what feels right?
I hazard a guess you've lost alot of ball speed with the reg shaft. You seemingly play stiff in every other club..

Imurg,

I had a Trackman session last night.

Was having a driver and fairway fitting.

The G20 with stiff shaft was 20 yards less than the D2@12 degrees (A4) and according to the pro, had significantly more spin.

It was in fairness to the G20 down the middle every time and the pro said if all i cared about was hitting the fairway then it was the better club and worth losing the distance.

I settled for the D2 10.5 degree driver and 910 17 degree fairway, both with the 'ilima shaft, 61 gm driver, 71 gm fairway.

Cheers

Steve...

what shaft you got in your 4 wood? recon that regular may be getting overpowered in the driver?

Sounds as though the shaft is the issue. A shaft fitting will have your big dog barking again!

Sorry but if your pitching a 4wood 225 yards then you should be on tour. I simply don't believe it.

Can someone explain the rules to me please. I was under the impression that the instant someone posted their yardages they were to be instantly ridiculed and called a liar?

My driving distance is about 240 and I'm not a big hitter, so 225 is certainly "dooable" in my humble opinion.

It depends if any one on here has played with the person waggling the appendage. If they have, then figures can be quoted with no fear of ridicule. Well, almost no fear.

Imurg has been around for a while, and there are quite a few here who have played in his company.

He is (was) also a pretty decent golfer.

No, they're only ridiculed and called liars when they appear to be claiming that they have better (and longer) driving stats than the world's best pro's that play this game for a living. And as Murph pointed out, a lot of us have played with Ian. He hits a decent ball (EDIT: occasionally ;))

Don't worry, you'll pick the rules up quick enough ;)

I doubt very much that 225yds with a fairway is a Tour Players Stat
A very silly statement
I know of players myself, that hit a 3 or 4 wood to this distance or even bit further
This is all down to the fact that their 3 or 4 wood gives them their optimal launch
Most of these same guys CANT hit their DRIVER any further than their fairway either
A friend of mine ( PGA PRO ) is a custom fitter at a large local shop, and he has seen loads of examples of this, some people cant manage the Longer shaft ( not saying this is Imurg Prob )

So if it's a Newbie they are lying until proven otherwise. It's confusing this forum malarky but I'll remember that for next time.
