lost my mojo for golf

I think thats been the biggest cause Rob. Giving up membership and no active handicap.

Not playing comps or regularly with my old PP's has definitely not helped.

Keep on whacking the wee ball, even if it is just for fun. You'll really miss it if you do give it up without being really sure. I've still to get back on the course since my accident way back in March. That pipe dream of playing again keeps me focussed on what I need to do to get there. I'll probably never play to the standard I used to play to, but, I want to get back out there and give it a whack ;)

Don't give in.

With that swing of yours I am surprised you didn't give up years ago.:D

I am sure you will get the bug again. I gave up for years, but enjoy playing more now than I ever did before.

Certainly seems a 'good time' to lose the mojo!

Winter Golf can either be depressing squelching through the clag and hitting everything fat, or great fun as an outing with mates laughing about squelching through the clag and hitting everything fat...

So park it as a recreation/habit and re-assess it come April.
Don't let those wedges go to 'just anyone' though! And that Driver shaft would suit me too - my Reg 60gm version is just a tad soft!

Could just be Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD), which is a form of depression that some people get in the Winter, not helped by the clock change to GMT. We are only four weeks away the the shortest day, and then things start to get better again, so suggest that the OP hangs on to his gear for a few months. :)

I get SAD, sucks balls. Get really down on myself at this time of year and my motivation for almost anything is very low.

Like Gibbo, I've lost the motivation for golf although I've been like it for a while, not helped by having a really bad year on the course, not seeing any improvement and my friends getting better. Opted to hit the gym most nights instead of the range, seen a drastic reduction in the waist line but not the handicap.

Steve,

Just concentrate on other things just now, golf is just one of your hobbies/interests so treat it that way and come back to it when you're ready.

Personally I pretty much only hit the range in winter- muddy field walking isnt on my joy list - and come March I'm itching and motivated again.........as I feel you will be also.

I had a mate who played 6 times a week, unemployed and going nowhere.

One day he just decided to give it up and sell all his gear.

2 years later he now plays twice a week and enjoys it more than ever.
He has a job now also.

I was surprised the day he gave up completely and I tried to tell him to play 2 or 3
times a week instead of 6 but he had lost his love of the game.

I will never lose my mojo for this game I love it,and the people ive met on the forum just
make it better.:D;)

I am nuts about golf but with no membership drive to play is pretty low. I like the odd pop to the range or a cheap course but its not frequent at all. At this time of year as a nomad there is no point. Nomadic golf is for April to September IMO.

Im going to get a membership come April, somewhere, then I will be out 10 times a month easy until September, then once a week over winter.

Sorry to read this Gibbo. As others have said though you're not missing a lot in wet cold conditions and no point being out there hating every second of it. Put the clubs away, find something better to do for a while and wait for the start of the new season and reassess

My advice would be, when you do get back to playing again, and you will be, is to forget the range and don't have any lessons! Just go out and play, get your swing going again and enjoy the banter with your mates! NO PRESSURE!

I think some people place too much pressure on themselves by having lessons and expecting big improvements. It doesn't always work for everybody. I also think we should know our limitations and without being negative, accept that we will not be as good as we would all like to be.

Lessons are fine for more talented golfers but for a lot of people they can make matters worse and cost a fortune at the same time.

I appreciate that a lot will not agree with the above. It is only my opinion gleaned from reading countless posts on here regarding lessons, not playing well, wondering what's happened to their games, trying this trying that, changing clubs and giving it up. Rant after rant after rant, just lighten up a bit, look at your surroundings and ENJOY!!

Sorry for the "Rant"!

For Gibbo -  :fore:

i was big into fishing, spent thousands on rods reel etc, was out all hours and away for days at a time all over the place, couldnt get enough! then the passion faded away, was making myself go thinking when you get there you will be fine, but ended up coming away early, got a spare room now full of stuff gathering dust. the golf bug then took hold and i have been playing for a few years but i cant help thinking will this go the same way as the fishing?

Gibbo, I was the same over the summer, I just couldn't be bothered. I stopped going to the range after I shanked my way through 25 balls and left the rest for a kid in the next booth. I can't really say the last time I had a sherman on the course, so I concluded that I'm just not a range person...

However, since the end of the season I've been really enjoying my golf. I played twice this weekend and I'm getting the groove back. I think that since I've made a few changes and I'm hitting it better that I'm actually looking forward to the game.

Take a break, don't force it and go back when the mood takes you :)

Yup, got this t-shirt.

Stopped playing about 18 months ago, was desperate to get to CAT1 but couldn't. My behaviour and attitude on the course stunk like a pair of week worn y fronts so I jacked it.I've played three times this year and enjoyed it tremendously. If I play 11/12 over I'm happy and stick to match play against a similar level pal...the prize? A packet of rolos.I've been asked to play each week but I've resisted as I know too much will ruin the pleasure of my occasional round.
