Lost golf balls

I had a competition a month or so ago where I lost 5 balls in 11 holes which included 3 playing the same shot from the middle of the fairway I went: shank, shank, shank.......walked in with the blessing of my playing partners.

In fact all 5 lost balls were due to the shanks which have thankfully now gone.

In 1 round probably about 7 or 8 on the Old Course at Moray, It was 40-50 mph winds and I cant hit a low ball. Its a laugh watching the sail into the gorse then picking the worst ball in the bag knowing you are going to do the same thing again!

A mate of mine played with 3 of his mates (none of them more than casual golfers) and bought 20 lake balls between them in the pro shop before the round.

The first tee had a lake in front of it, and they had to go back to the shop to buy more balls before they'd all got off the tee!!

I did something similar at rossapenna. I just kept loading up the driver and hitting my usual ball. that was a few years ago. I think id be able to combat such situations a little better these days. that was just brutal on my part. they were sailing so far right it was funny! :o

I lost 10 balls in a round just a couple of weeks ago. Got to the point that I just couldn't be bothered looking for them anymore. The heart wasn't really in it after injuring the same elbow for about the 4th time this year. If I'd paid for them then it might have been different though. I'm sure the Dog will find most of them this afternoon when I take her over the course for a walk..

Just thinking back, I remember once losing 7 off our 17th tee. It was only a 100yd carry over water to a winter green. I KNOW that the 52 degree should be able to make the carry, but every one just hit the bank and rolled back in. My playing partner was on the floor by the time I took out the PW and knocked it into the bunker at the back of the green. Got up and down for a 15 though...

Ouch, indeed!

Mine is 6 at the third on Formby's Par 3 course. Its basically a poor mans Sawgrass 17th, around 100-110yrds to the green, surrounded by water (aside from the pathway into it). Its an absolute a$$-hole (see what i did there...) if there's strong winds. Even landing the green can often see your ball just roll over the side - am there tonight so really pleased i decided to remember this!!!

Edit: I just read Hovis's post

Once lost three on one hole.
Drove off the tee and tried to smash it straight over the water on a dog leg - splash
Took a fairway wood from behind the water to get on the green in regulation - topped it, splash
Took the same club and hammered it - it ran through the green and into the brook on the other side - splash

last summer when the rough was really thick and high I had to give up playing on my own in the evening as it was costing me too much in lost balls. Anything off the fairway was a goner if you had nobody to help get a line on it etc. Think I must have lost half a dozen over 9 holes at one stage.

There's usually someone willing to sell them back to you out on the course. He must have a suit of armour to get into all the gorse bushes and retrieve the balls. Last time I saw him he had dozens all neatly tied up in wee plastic bags ready for sale :D

Didn't see any with Murph on the side though

Oh, he was there alright. Following me like a vulture. Luckilly I had a fifteenth in my bag.

Earlier this summer i lost 8 balls playing the Killeen course in Killarney. Lovely course right on Lough Leane with a good few holes along the edge of the lough. The 10th par three has a green which is almost an island green with water on three sides. I put two straight in the water and decided to just walk to the green and take in the beautiful scenery and move on to the 11th. I played the last four holes with my last ball and was afraid of losing it before finishing the round.
