Losing weight/fitness thread

To lose 1lb of fat a week I think you need a calorie deficit of about 3500 for that week.

I’ve read articles that suggest it doesn’t matter where the calories come from, but for me that’s a load of bull. I’d rather eat lots of calorie “light” food, than not much calorie dense food.

I don’t know the answer, but what how many calories do you think that slice of cake had? There are so many hidden calories in food when eaten out, even just from how the food is cooked that it can be a bit of a minefield
That's probably the nail on the head. 1500 calories is 1500 calories in terms of dieting and deficit, but if you eat 1500 calories of rubbish with no nutrients you'll be starving, whereas you can eat 1500 of decent stuff and feel fine. So that's where the difference will be, just more about how you feel. And if you're still hungry you're more likely to grab something else and blow your calories for that day.

Your understanding is correct. What is not correct is how many calories you are actually consuming - and not what an app tells you. To basically stay the same weight, then you obviously weren't in calorie deficit. If you are seriously wanting to lose weight then you need to cut out the snacks and takeaways, not just cut down and move more, be it walking, gym, football, whatever. Stop making excuses that you don't have time, etc as you are only fooling yourself.

Sorry if this is coming over a bit harsh but sometimes people need to hear the harsh truth to give them the kick up the backside they need.
👏👏👏

Just offering a round of applause as this absolutely nails it for me. So many complain there isn’t time in the day even if you sleep for 8 hrs and have 16hrs awake, 30mins of exercise is still only about 3% of your time (I think 🤣). I guarantee people spend more than that doom scrolling or posting on here 🤣

Agree on the food as well everyone can go without a takeaway but use excuses because they don’t want to. Nothing wrong with a bit of tough love, Keep it up 😍

Err two fried eggs it says 166, mushrooms 50, sourdough with butter 77.
Out of interest what do you drink throughout the day as it’s not water. Lad I worked with couldn’t fathom why he didn’t lose weight when he was eating under 2k calories a day. He forgot to factor in the 5 large lattes he had a day with full fat milk.

Not saying your the same but it’s a thought.

Top tip I follow is don’t waste calories on a drink 😂

Can of Tenzing in the morning (63 cals) and generally Pepsi Max Cherry in the afternoon (3 cals for 500ml). I don't drink tea or coffee.

Wowza I think you could be miles off

200 to 220’ for the eggs (they’ll have used oil or butter and not fry light)

Sourdough if it’s like a supermarket slice probs 120 per slice id say the butter alone is 50-70 cals

Mushrooms will be in oil or butter as well id probs say double that number too

Maybe, yeah. But I wasn't in the kitchen while they were cooking it so who knows.

I think the bigger reason I went over the calories on Sunday was the courgette & lime cake I had it with it, plus the chocolate cheesecake my parents gave us after the Sunday lunch. And the half a chocolate Santa I had for dinner.

Yeah but what I’m saying is when you’re estimating and using MFP for stuff you’re not in control of you could be off by nearly double

Aye but you went slightly over for that day I think you might have went over by a fairly big margin 😂

Also up your step count 6000 steps is pap get them legs moving
Yeah, probably.

I'm not one for just walking around pointlessly. It's like a 20-25 minute walk while I get my lunch and listen to a podcast, and also a 10-12 minute walk to the station after work. But I'm not just going to go out and walk round and round in circles for an hour. There has to be a purpose to it or I just get bored.

The purpose is to get your steps up, burning calories to increase your deficit.

You’ve said several times about wanting to lose weight but you just put obstacles in your own way. You won’t give up a takeaway every week because you don’t want to, whereas you could cut back to 1 or 2 a month. You need to increase your deficit which can be done with very little extra walking but you refuse to go out and do a bit more as you get bored.

You’ve got loads of excuses bud, surely you can find good enough reason that you want to lose weight and your health is more important than being a bit bored for 30mins of walking. Only you can make the changes but if you don’t want to then not much point complaining that the scales aren’t moving down quickly enough. Don’t you even say yourself your wife wants a walk pad but it’s easy enough to go outside and do it 🤷🏼

Maybe spend the £80 buy the walk pad and use it indoors. Chuck a YouTube video on, watch it whilst walking that way you’ve done something productive and healthy whilst doing what you enjoy.

I'm only being honest. 🤷🏻 I believe I have a touch of high-functioning autism, and one of the unfortunate factors is the minute I get a bit bored of something, my brain completely switches off to it and I have no motivation whatsoever. This is why I used to love playing tennis, football, badminton etc, but every gym membership I've ever had lasts 5 weeks before I stop going. I can walk for 20-30 minutes listening to a podcast, no problem, but if that becomes an hour I'll just get bored and it will stop happening.

Please note as well, I'm not necessarily looking for a magic answer that doesn't exist, I was just making idle fitness-related chit-chat really. 🙂

Edit: I just put a bunch of heavy boxes up in the loft, but I can't find anything in MyFitnessPal to enter for that. Must have burned at least 500 cals, I'm knackered!

End of the day it’s your journey no one can tell you what to do. I’m always up for a bit of fitness idle chit chat, I love keeping fit and healthy plus I have to for work so it’s double edged for me.

I just find it intriguing when people want to change but then put their own immovable obstacles in the way. Genuinely fascinates me as I’m the sort that believes if you want something you always find a way so it’s good to see the other side.
