Looking For A Strong 3 Wood...What do you like?

I used to have cobra s9-1 f speed 3 and 5 woods. Fabulous clubs. Not convinced anything newer is an upgrade really, as long as the shaft suits you.

If they still make that model my 3 wood is a strong/long club.

I was considering getting a new 3 wood to replace my V-steel (which is a lovely club) as I wanted a little more distance as a driver alternative. Started hitting the V-steel more and then changed my mind again.

Then I went to the range with my father in-law who was demoing a G20, RBZ 2 and and Xhot. I had a go with them all and though each pretty good, the Xhot was just something else.

I really didn't expect to like it as it's a fairly big head and I'm not a fan of graphics, but I just couldn't argue with the performance. Lovely high flight, long, soft draw and soooooo easy to hit of ground or tee. Needless to say after a couple more demo sessions to be sure I now own one.

If you are looking for a long easy to hit 3 wood I'd definitely give the standard xhot a go.

I'm still contemplating a low lofted 3 wood as I hit my 5 wood in most "fairway" situations and don't really gain a great deal by just using my 15 3 wood off the tee and my driver is whippy as a whippy thing and just balloons

New driver or low lofted 3 wood hmmmmmmmm

Ping Rapture V2 - best fairway wood I have ever used. A really excellent club.

In general terms, I think Ping make the best woods for club golfers.

Just fallen in love with my Rapture V2 Driver 9* again, seems the shaft is the right length and feels 'controllable'

If you can find one look for a Tour Edge Exotics. Great fairway woods and I'm currently looking for a 4 wood after foolishly selling my old 3 wood......

I found a 3wood on ebay for £75 + P&P - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOUR-EDGE...Leisure_Golf_GolfClubs_JN&hash=item2330492788

I can't say I've ever heard of them....but the reviews seem good

It says it's long, but at 15* I would have thought any 13* with a simliar shaft would be longer...

thanks for the heads up

That is what I have with a blue shaft that I can't remember the name of. Excellent club.

I had a couple of goes with one of the white TM drivers at West Hill this week. Pretty awful. Really head light and could not hit anything but a stratospheric cut with it. Might be okay with a different shaft but felt horrid in the hands.

Ping are great. The Rapture is the best I have tried. I have the 3 wood too. Highly recommend them with either the stiff stock shaft or something else like my blue one.

Actually, I am about to have the club heads modified a little. A friend of mine works for a top end car restoration business and does the paintwork. He is scheduled to re-spray a Ferrari over the next two weeks and has ordered in the specific red Ferrari paint! He is going to do my woods in it and then lacquer them so that they will look just like Ferrari bodywork. I am quite excited and think they will look great. This is also the closest I will come to owning a Ferrari in the next couple of years too!

You'd need to check on that model but all (I think) of the TEE fairways are max COR which is essentially what the rbz is. I had a 15* one that was a monster off the tee.....

They are a huge brand in the US and a lot of use on tour etc, just not a "fashionable" brand across here.

There fairways are titanium so they fly

I'd love to have one they do have a uk website they sell them from a pro shop in Sussex, or maybe surrey type tour edge uk into google

They do the xcg 3 in a 13 degree and it's £125

Should be pretty good - though I'm not sure I'd have bothered changing if that distance with the Cobra is consistent.

Had a couple of TEE CB1s up until 18 months ago (multiple bags - now only 1) and they were really good. They were the original CB1s and pretty 'hot'. 1 (with a 'pipe' for a shaft) ended up in NWJocko's possession and the other (with a TP7!) went to a mate in Scotland.

Pro at West Byfleet used to be the UK Agent, after being very impressed with them but and I remember seeing quite a display in the Pro Shop at Fairhaven when I played it in 2008. I think quite a lot get sold through the Foremost (a Pro Shop buying group) network.

I hear the Callaway 3 Deep is a cracking club for off the tee as a driver replacement... certainly hasn't done Phil Mickleson any harm. It has a deeper face which assists with tee shots, but that will likely mean you sacrifice a little when playing it from the deck.

I tested one on a GC2 Launch Monitor this morning. Also tested the TM SLDR

According to the stats I was hitting the 3 Wood further than both my own driver and the SLDR....with much better dispersion too

I'm going back for a proper fitting on Thursday and hope to have one in the bag soon.

having tried a few- I finally found one I liked

Stayed with Cobra and got a SZ 3+ 13 degree with Fujikura Vista Tour Series Stiff 70 Shaft

it goes miles - Happy Days
