I have turned my game on its head this year and really concentrated on my short game from 120 and in, and it's starting to really pay off, making more birdies than ever before

The biggest weakness in my short game was playing half or three-quarter shots so I bought extra wedges to fix my gaps and allow me to play full shots and I now happily play with 5 wedges in the bag

the downside to this is I have to lose some clubs to fit them in

I'm a fairly long hitter, maybe not by some forum lengths :) so I feel I can sacrifice my driver in favour of my 3-wood and will still be able to play most 400 yard par 4's fairly comfortably. Also I probably only hit 4/10 fairways with Driver and maybe as much as 7/10 with 3wood

I'm currently using an old Cobra F-speed 3 wood, average around 240 yds with it, and I'm looking to change to something newer

have you got a 3 wood that you love and would recommend.

I thought about the RBZ but really don't like the white head, despite the reviews being really good on the stage 2 tour

...anyone have any alternative or preferences

and has anyone else stacked the bag the way I have?

I hear the Callaway 3 Deep is a cracking club for off the tee as a driver replacement... certainly hasn't done Phil Mickleson any harm. It has a deeper face which assists with tee shots, but that will likely mean you sacrifice a little when playing it from the deck.

The Callaway x-hot 3w was great when I tried it but like you I have a Cobra F-speed 3w and wasn't looking forward to losing that gorgeous unique sound it makes on impact, so instead of replacing the club I decided to just get a new grip fitted (Lamkin crossline) and its transformed how well I can hit it

Much cheaper obviously and when I lent it to an 17 yr old on the range and he smacked a ball straight over the back fence, it just confirmed that any failure was purely down to user error :(

Rbz stage 2 spoon. Have mine set at 11.5 and it's long. I've also dropped the driver for abit. Just carry two 3 woods.

If you can find one look for a Tour Edge Exotics. Great fairway woods and I'm currently looking for a 4 wood after foolishly selling my old 3 wood......

Ive got the Callaway Xhot pro 3 wood in 13.5 and it goes as well as my mizuno and is easier to hit.

I tried the Callaway deep and found it easy enought to hit off the deck the only problem is it goes the same distance as my driver off tee and deck, so was not much good for laying up or when driver is too much which had been the case with the hard dry fairways this year.

I did think of getting one for the winter as there was an ad in the mag advertising them at £79, but when i tried to get one they had none left at that price.

Patrick. Did you find the Deep more accurate than your driver? Its a club I'm really interested in as the difference between my 3w balls striking and Driver ball striking is huge

hard to day as i'm pretty straight with a driver, thats the strongest part of my game.

The only thing i would find with the deep is that on days when you can't hit a cows behind with a banjo i might struggle with the much smaller head of the deep.

Only trouble with it would be 2nd shots, it would go too far with run unless you were alway playing long courses.

if you don't use a driver i would give it a shot

Couldn't be without my 13 degree Cleveland 39s 3 wood, I don't use a driver and don't need to as some on here will testify :)

Callaway steelhead 3+ or 4+, fantastic clubs and shafts, you need to like a small head though, if you like the 3 wood bohemoths around just now you waont like this. Makes a brilliant sound from the face too:cool:

Ping Rapture V2 - best fairway wood I have ever used. A really excellent club.

In general terms, I think Ping make the best woods for club golfers.

A 10 handicapper averaging 240 yards with a 3 wood - i'd stick with what you've got mate!
