I was in the Army. We used to use parade gloss to help get our boots waterproof but most importantly soft and comfy.
Another old Army trick to help break in a new pair of boots is to "Widdle" in them and leave overnight.
Next morning, drain and remove excess liquid.
You then wear them all day,
What happens is the leather gets all soft and pliable, as it dries it molds itself to the shape of your foot and then hardens.
It was a jolly jape to widdle in someone elses boots when they were drunk and wait for the screams as they put them on next morning....Happy days
Have to say have not tried this method with Golf Shoes, Im sure someone will say it rots the stitches
