Longest Club except Putter

Don't have the new rules here but I suspect it's in the definition of club length which is now defined as the length of the longest club in your bag except your putter.

One of the important points, as well, is that is the longest club you have in your bag. You are not allowed to borrow a club to measure with.

Have you got the new R&A app?

If so go to "Definitions" and look for "club length" there's quite a detailed explantation there. Especially Interpretations 1 & 2. (Presumably there's something similar in the printed versions?)

Kind of under definition of club length - thought there would be something under relief or penalty areas but can't see anything.
Using the book you will see in the relevant relief rules that club-length is in italics. That indicates the the term is explained in the definitions. The online version has a paler typeface and provides a direct link to the definition.

OK thanks - I guess the link works but I was under the impression from the presentations etc. it would be specifically spelled out in the rules.

I guess you shouldn't make assumptions

The book has the definitions at the end. Online there are two separate resources, Rules of Golf and Definitions in addition to Official Definitions, Player's Edition, Committee Procedures and Visual Search.

I'm thinking of putting a grip and clubhead on my 15 foot ball retriever so that I can then use it for measuring clublengths. No penalty for carrying a non-conforming club in 2019 and penalty only applies if a stroke is made with it. :D

Ok, ball retriever might be a stretch, but if I build and carry a 72 inch driver as one of my 14 clubs and never use it for a stroke?
