Local Opens

Is Golf Empire THE website to use for looking at open comps? Or can anyone else suggest any other sites which list these?

I've found popping into a local course their notice board usually has a few that arent on these sites.

You can also try singlefiguregolfer.co.uk (which also has a few higher handicap opens) and the different county golf union websites.

You can get and access "the wee yellow book" online. I don't think next years is printed yet, as they have to wait till clubs submit their comp dates. They cost £4.50 last season, and are sold at most clubs.

trouble with the wee yellow book etc is a lot of clubs dont relay their Opens to them.

Last year they had 4000 opens in the book. There is a few clubs who don't submit on time and a few who don't want their opens in the book for some reason
.What's not in it is the SGU competitions, you have to look on the SGU web site for them .

I used the wee yellow book this year for a couple of entries in Ayrshire, certainly worked well enough for me. I also lookd slightly further afield, West - Central Scotland and they had plenty that I recognised.

Good value event for those who want to get the season off to an early start.

Looks excellent - North Berwick is fantastic as is Gullane 1

There's a few all week opens kicking about in Scotland though most are at one club, Montrose, Nairn Dunbar and Royal Dornoch all do stroke play followed by matchplay events - there's also the Carnoustie Country Classic played over Carnoustie Championship, Barry (Panmure), Monifieth and Montrose, which is a similar event to the East Lothian one but a bit more expensive at £399 without accommodation

A few more comps are dripping their way on to Golf Empire now. More interested in the one day pairs events and looking forward to getting cheap rounds on good courses next year!

If you are on twitter follow golf empire ed as he is putting links to the opens once they appear on the website. Its just a shame not all clubs do online booking to make life easy.
