I have really been struggling to get off the tee for a good few months now but on a recent practice session I found out why. It was so simple I couldn't beleive it. I have gotten into the habit of "sitting down" too much in my posture that was causing a rounded flat planed swing which in turn was leading to the low flight and draw spin. By standing more upright with less flex in the knees and holding my hands a bit higher the swing plane has steepened and I am back to my former glory once more. I have hit around 100 balls with the better posture and the improvement is really dramatic. Come on Sunday I cannot wait.

It goes to prove that the basics need checking over and over again. How many of us really pay attention regularly to our grip, stance and alignment either down the range hitting loads of balls or out on the course before we hit a shot?

Good news mate, I love it when you find something like that.

Hit the nail on the head there Homer, it's really easy to get too comfortable in the set up and get into bad habits. That will teach me a lesson, I will start re-checking my set up on a monthly basis from now on.

Good on you DB......for me thee is no better feeling in the game when you actually work out what went wrong yourself......The feeling of self satisfaction is huge.....Good luck the weekend ;)

Well done just goes to show you dont need to pay for lessons all the time, getting out there and working it out yourself gives you so much more satisfaction. As homer said some players just go out and hit without taking enough time over the basics.Good luck for the weekend.

Well done. The set up is really important. I usually have a check each year with our pro to make sure my posture, stance, grip, alignment, etc. are OK. Amazing sometimes how a little adjustment makes a big difference.

I remember reading something, by Ernie Els I think, to the effect that the set up was the one part of the swing where any golfer can match the pros. Not everyone can swing like a pro but just about anyone can set up like a one.

Always thought that was a really interesting observation.
