Playing it tomorrow with our Pro and two other of our members, the President and our top junior in a Pro-Am. I'm the worst player. I hope I don't let them down. Is any one one else there?

That would be no then. Well a 1 1/2 hour journey turned into a 2 1/2 hour slog. Phone, on which I was using for guidance, died because the cable from the charger died and I had to revert to using a human guidance system to get me there. Aren't humans hopeless at directions? I made it with 20 mins to spare. I played really good golf and kept us in the hunt for 9 holes. We were 12 under after 11 holes and going well, then down came the rain and we collapsed to finish 14 under with our junior throwing a wobbly for three holes. Our pro, just a young lad, had a bit of a mare off the tee, with one drive not reaching the ladies tee. In his defence, he then smacked and awesome three wood onto the green and made par. He scrambled all over the course, and was going well, much to his amazement, until the rain did for him. The food afterwards was rubbish and all in all the course just ain't worth the £90 summer fee. The facilities aren't great either. Only a two hour journey back, making it a very long day.

You are very much entitled to your opinion and thoughts and course opinions are always subjective but this was not my experience of Little Aston at all and I've played it a few times now. Food has always been top notch with a wine list that would put many restaurants to shame. A pro shop and pro who are very welcoming, a visitors locker room with decent showers. Practice area isn't close but thebuave good nets and a cracking putting green.

As for the fee, the course is head and shoulders better than the Belfry and we know how expensive that is, the club itself is pretty exclusive and holds open final qualifying so I'd suggest £90 is decent value especially in the condition it tends to be in through the summer.

At £90 summer fee there are much better places to play. Now I don't usually play courses at this price range so have limited experience but that only makes it worse. Wallasey, Hillside, St Annes Old links are really the only places in this price range, in fact St Annes is not even at that end and all three far outstrip Little Aston in all aspects.

I don't disagree that there are many places better at £90 but it's all relative as to location etc, look at Silloth for example, there is not a better value course in the UK IMO but it's not the most accessable places.

Comparing Little Aston to the 3 you mention is unfair as they are not the same style of course, LA is Parkland with the others links. Hillisde is £155 in the summer so unsure how you compare that with LA, i'll agree with the others though but given they are 100 miles apart it's hardly comparing them.

That said, who pays £90 for Wallasey, £25 for most of this forum if they talk nicely ;)

i play little Aston alot and the course is always hit and miss and so is the food. you must have got it on a bad day but it's no excuse. the golf course is fantastic when its in good nick. as for it being better than the brab.... not a chance. presentation of the brab is head and shoulders above LA and the greens are worlds apart. although LA greens are good when they're on it.

oh, and my friends played the event yesterday and shot - 16 under and didn't even make the top 5

Can't disagree about presentation of the Brab or the greens, played it back in July and they were probably the best greens I played on all year. I don't get all the slagging off it gets particularly on here I love the Belfry, great course and set up but when you consider the Brab green fee in the summer is circa £160 I just don't think it's as good value when Little Aston is £90. I also feel Little Aston has a better variety of holes over the piece.

the brab green fee is never £160. i know is advertised at £175 but it never happens. my playing partner is golf op manager. he said he can't think of a single time when a customer has walked in and paid the advertised price. 50% are corporate golfers and the rest are play and stay customers. even in the summer the belfry offer a play and stay with a round on the brab and derby for £150.

I can only quote what is advertised bud.
