Links vs Parkland - No Contest!

Links golf is my favourite, some parts can be bland, but it's almost guaranteed all-year round golf and you can be playing a completely different course depending on what way the wind blows.

Not having a dig at Parkland though, it has a very important part to play in all golf. There is nothing better than a beautiful calm summer's evening playing links golf!!!!

I reckon if you are passing up on that JOUK then you don't back your game on links....just come out and tell us,there is no shame in it,alot of folk dislike links golf for this very reason... :D

Uh-oh, ...rumbled!

Seriously though it just looks so boring, I'd hate to have to play any of those courses 3 times a week... no wonder the Scottish are so miserable ;)

I think that links is the best golf out there period.

That said I do think the course that started this thread looks a little bland and uninspiring. No dunes, humps bumps and hollows by the look of it.

Courses like Portstewart, Portrush, Machrihanish, Cruden Bay, Machrie etc have character and are quite frankly pure links layouts, the greens have been placed there and the hole shaped by the natural contours and topography.

I enjoy all types of golf but if I was told I had to commit to links, heathland or parkland, links would be my choice.

And Goswick ;) ;)

I’m a member at both and there rally is no contest when it comes to golf…..links gets my vote all the time. The problem is, a photo of a links course never does it real justice as there is no real focal point, whereas and photo of a decent parkland course will always look inviting. If I had the cash I would be playing North Berwick, Dunbar east links or Gullane. All these courses have stunning views for miles around unlike a park land course where you can only see a couple of holes around you.

I love playing round Royal Musselburgh, it’s a beautiful parkland course, one of the best in east Lothian, but if I was to build a house by the side of a golf course it would be by the coast. Lottery depending.

If you want the epitomy of bland then I suggest a trip to Lydd. A more god foresaken course I've yet to see. I like links golf and think it is really the only place that fully tests everything about your game. That's more to do with the conditions (wind, firm greens etc) than the layout. That said there aren't many pot bunkers on parkland courses.

There are lots of parkland courses that are just as special though and can ask different types of questions and to be honest I'm firmly on the fence when it come to which I like the most. I don't get to play enough links really

If I had to choose, I would chose Woodhall Spa Hotchkin. Heathland course, blends the best of both worlds, except you can't see the sea.

If you have never played it, you can't comment. You know zip.

I love playing all types of courses, i like a course to test every part of my game. I do prefer links golf when competing, i find i tend to score better on those courses.

If i'm in good company, the weather is good and the greens are good then i'm one happy golfer on any type of course.

And likewise, untill you have played The Machrie in a whore of a wind so bad that it takes you a driver, 3 wood, 4 iron and a wedge just to reach the 352 yard par 4 17th, also stood on a snake (adder) in the rough, sh@t yourself while jumping 20 feet into the air screaming snake like a 5 year old girl, then you aint played true links golf!

That incident took 10 years off my life! Still dont find it amusing!

Dont know if that story or the where you hit a horse in the arse is the funniest :D :D :D

No, that new one's a doozy and beats the horse story hands down.

LMAO

I'm callin' the RSPCA, though. Thecraw obviously has a cruel streak.

John,

I had a streak alright, however it was running down my leg at the time.
