Links or parkland ???

Links everytime, however as I am about 55 miles from the coast I dont get to play them that regularly, so have to settle for an average parkland course.

Well....if there was a prize for best debut question...

I play parkland now, but learned the game on links. Whilst I love playing by the sea, and the all year round golf of links I am a sucker for a tree lined fairway...

Heathland :whoo:

Links over parkland for me, but I would rather be a member of a heathland course over both.

Links courses are my favourite for away days, but I wouldn't want to be a member and be beaten up by the wind every day. Heathland is a nice compromise, as you get some cracking courses, with great all year round condition. Well at mine you do.;)

I am a member at a parkland course but like to play on Links, given the choice it would be Links all day over parkland.Parkland is just target golf but Links is a whole different ball game.

I didn't expect response like this brilliant .well im looking forward to the challange even though I've only played links a handful of times there's somthing about a links I love .so my new challange starts from the Start of March

The Best of Parkland V The Best of Links = No Contest, Links without a doubt.

Average Parkland Course V Average Links Course =Slightly Tougher Call.

Kinda nailed on.

But give me an above average parkland versus a 'normal' links, then parkland sneaks that by a whisper for me (in summer :D)

That's my view, love links but wouldn't want to play it every day

Links for me. You can't beat being by the sea and being able to play throughout the year in dry conditions.
Links golf is the true way to play the game.

Mostly played parkland, but lurv Links even though don't get to play them enough. Heathland is great......
My favourite is whichever I am playing at the time.

Heathland icourses are the best in my opinion, followed by links and with parkland in last place. However the majority of courses in the UK are parkland, and tend to get a bit muddy in the Winter, especially this year! :(

As we know it’s not the landscape that makes one type better than another. It’s the course design, playing partners, clubhouse and FVM etc that decides which is ‘best’ for any individual

As for these two styles of golf I like a course that challenges by providing a seamless mix the two. I like a few holes open to the elements, stunning ocean views, uneven fairways etc and I probably strike the ball a wee bit better on a course with a sandy base. But I also like some trees to mess with the wind along with an axminster fairway, receptive greens and the peace & tranquility often found on secluded parkland holes

Not sure this fence will take my weight, so...

If it’s not links then you’re playing a variation of the game of golf
;)

When in the UK i have to play a parkland course as i live in the midlands....but for a real treat go and seek out a links so its a Links all day for me and....

when I lived in Scotland i got to play all year round as the links courses never for flooded with rain so always open. The only time they were closed was when is was frozen...and being by the sea that was rare.

Was a member of a links course for nearly 30 years, then moved to a parkland course. Parkland is nicer on the eye but when you're sat on your bum for 4 weekends in a row and your old mates are have played every weekend you kinda understand the attraction of links.

Moved house just after Christmas, which meant changing clubs. Choice; parkland half a mile away or links 6miles away. I'm back at a links course.

Most will disagree but my 20pence worth.

Links: lovely on a dry day and summer days are something special...... But..... Winter at sub 5* with a wind chill making it play more like 0* at best with driving rain, sounds like a prisoner of war camp! We have a couple of forum meets a year a and the pre Christmas one is one I've always looked forward to. Courses mud free and we have been lucky that 3 on the bounce have been lovely crisp winter days with not a drop of rain in sight. Perfect! But how often does that happen in Blighty!

Parkland / heathland : for me spring/summer and early autumn on one of these for me is perfect. Cross cut fairways cutting through corridors of trees with other shrubs in bloom is perfect.

Another spin is down land courses (if there's such a category) . My course is high on surrey downs with little or no trees/shrubs around. In the summer it bares resemblance to a hilly links, tight fairways cut through knee deep wispy rough. Lovely in the summer and due to being high up always plays with a 1 club breeze at best, but like a links I find it featureless and bland on the eye during late autumn and through to mid/end winter. A typical winters day at ours can play in a 3 club wind with temps being atleast 3-4* less than any surrounding course. It doesn't sound a lot but with the driving wind it grinds you.

for this year I'm seriously contemplating a move, love the downland in the summer but miss the parkland scenery in the main months and the protection of wind/rain in the bad months
