Anyone played this course recently, or any members there.
http://www.theclubcompany.com/clubs/Seedy-Mill/

Used to be called seedy Mills, until they added some health & fitness. I've played there before, but not for a few years & wondered what its like now & how it stands up to Autumn winter conditions. Does it get boggy, & what are the greens like. Only thought I'd ask before booking a tee time as the rates seem a little on the pricy side.

I would also be interested in any comments. looks like I am moving to that area so the inside info on any courses which are worth a look at for membership would help.

It rings a bell (from my days in the area). It was new-ish back then and I can't recall anyone choosing this over some of the others in the area. It could be good now, but for those prices, I'd go elsewhere.
Whittington Heath and Sutton Coldfield (same designer as Augusta National believe it or not) come to mind.
Personaly, I like Beau Desert in Staffs, Little Aston (although it's dear) and if I'm west of the city, Enville (in my top 3 all time) and/or bag a bargain at Swindon (Ridge).

As you might have guessed I'm considering courses for next years membership & they currently have a deal on regarding the joining fee...i.e. the lack of one, as opposed to Branston, which although 2 miles down the road,(a course I currently use via a deal with the alliss course) charges quite a high joining fee to be a full member. Maybe not the highest joining fee in the area, if you want exobitant I could mention Bretby, Whittington Heath & Willesley.

With Bretby at least you can spread out the exobitant joining fee & the yearly rates are not too bad & its only 5 miles away.

Would love to play Beau Desert, but a bit too far for me to travel, Lichfield 'm prepared to travel. I've previously been a member at The Brailsford, reasonable fees, though they are draging their heels in putting in the final six holes, pity as its a nice course, so because of that & the attitude of the secretary & a bit of a clicke there I didn't re-new.

The Craythorne are doing some deals, but having played there in the past I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone, borring & boggy even in summer

Breedon, no joining fee, good rates, nice interesting if short layout, but let down by greens, bunkers, teeboxes & soft going when wet. If the greenstaff sorted out a few problems this would be worth considering, as convinient for pre nightshift rounds.

Uttoxeter is a great course, bit hilly in places & the greens very fast most of the year, but best of all no joining fee & very tempting yearly rates. But again about at the limit of how far I'm prepared to travel on a regular basis.

I did look at membership of Whittington Heath, but you need a second mortgage to join & pay for the yearly subs. Pity, as its just off the A38 & on the right side to get to work from there.

As I say Branston would be ideal but for the joining fee & its likelyhood to let the trent flood it. the fact I know & already play the course & the fact its membership includes health & fitness is a distinct advantage & softener to the high joinin g fee & yearly subs. Hence why I might consider Seedy Mills/Lichfield.

Well I Joined Lichfield G&CC yesterday, had the health club induction this morning, also a good workout before joining some of the seniors for a round of golf. Was impressed with the course, though was concerned at how many unrepaired pitchmarkes I found on some greens. Considering the rain we've had the course was in greatcondition.

essentially, there are two main golf memberships, both include health & fitness either the 7 day or the 5 day.

5 day is 55 quid a month & 7 day is 81 quid a month. If you are going to use the other facilities it becomes good value.

Essentially to last me up until the end of March I decided to pay 305 quid up front for 5 & a bit months

Well to be honest I was playing with a group of seniors (the club likes to fill teetimes with fourballs) & they were as annoyed as I was about the lack of repaired pitchmarks, which we all sorted out before leaving a green, doing our bit of gardening. All it takes is to repair your own & one other pitchmark, then greens can soon recover.

They did refused point blank to let the ladies behind through.. which was a bit unsporting tbh, especially as the round took just over 4 hours. Its interesting to note that the guys I was playing with may not have been able to hit the balls very far & yet all maintained a reasonable score even when misscuing shots.
